Re: Squeezebox Transporter/Vortexbox setup for extreme Dummies

Also, it can't hurt to make sure you have a fresh start. Do the following.

1. Turn off VB itself (pressing the power button for about 20 seconds are so will cause it to do an orderly shutdown).

2. turn off laptop you are using

3. turn off (unplug) router.

then turn on router, let fully start

turn on laptop, let fully start

then turn on VB and let fully start

Then look for what IP addresses show up under the network scanner you installed

Re: Squeezebox Transporter/Vortexbox setup for extreme Dummies

[ Edited ]

By the way, it is a shame this is causing you such a headache!  The VB/SB setup should be plug and play.  I had a working transporter with VBA within about 5 minutes of unpacking my VBA.  I plugged in VBA, connected to router with ethernet cable. Turned it on.  Went to http://vortexbox:9000, gave LMS (then SbS) my mysb.com credentials and gave the music library a name (Gary's Vortexbox Music). Then in the transporter, went to my music, switch library and selected Gary's Vortexbox Music.  That was all in a matter of minutes. The only thing that took any time was copying all my FLAC files across the network to the VBA.   Otherwise, all this stuff runs trouble free for me 24/7, month after month.

I think your stuff is working, but something odd is going on with your network in terms of seeing/controlling things.

Re: Squeezebox Transporter/Vortexbox setup for extreme Dummies

I really  appreciate the time and patience you (both) are showing in trying to solve this, because mine ran out a few days ago.  I really have tried to follow your instructions to the letter in the simple way you have described.  When I cut and paste first the http://vortexbox link on the browser, which I had done before (I've been trying anything and everything) I got a drop-down menu that kept giving me a screen at Amazon store where I can buy the VB.  The other link sent me to the Verizon page where I need to sign in to get info about the system.  All I want to do is get back to the page I had on Sunday, the VB GUI, since that is where you say the action is.  I had changed the preference to static when I had access to that page, but since I can't seem to get back there I can't even check on that.  I agree that everyone else seems to have the simple set-up and go that you experienced, and also that Verizon may have set this network up to prevent link-ups, but that doesn't explain why I was able to access these pages the other day.  And I did access the Squeezebox page just now thru the link you provided, even though I shut it off the other day.

I'd suggest you try VortexBox support at this point, customer service or their forums.  Have your read through the VB FAQ's and the VB installation instructions?  Either something is wacky with your network or their is a translation issue.  Either way I think VB is better prepared to handle it.  :smileyhappy:

Agree, we haven't actually been dealing with the SB issue at all for many posts and once you get VB working, I suspect the SB will be fine. I'll follow the thread you've started at the VB forums, and it will be less confusing for you to have one thread to follow with advice.

Re: Squeezebox Transporter/Vortexbox setup for extreme Dummies

Have been doing the same on the VB forums, much of the same advice.  The problem seems to be that for some reason, my VB won't interact with my laptop anymore, even though it did over the weekend.  All the links I try that people here have suggested don't work.  Can't find the VB or the router, I keep getting directed to a Windows Cannot Connect screen that does a Network Diagnosis which tells me there is no problem!  So I keep going round in circles.  Everyone says not to try to access the Squeezebox before the VB, but I can get the SB page through the link sent to me.  So that is working, but not the VB-laptop connect.

Re: Squeezebox Transporter/Vortexbox setup for extreme Dummies

When you get the connect error have you tried the "connect anyway" option (if offered)?

I think you have network issues.  Until those are resolved you can expect problems:smileysad:

Re: Squeezebox Transporter/Vortexbox setup for extreme Dummies

Connect anyway does not come up.  I just had an issue with adding another laptop, had to connect to the network on a separate screen instead of just automatically which it is set up to do.  But I can't do that with the VB, since I have no way to access it thru the laptops (any of them)

Yeah, you have network issues.  :smileysad:
