Re: Squeezebox Transporter/Vortexbox setup for extreme Dummies

I can't seem to locate the VB thru the routes described on VB forum to access on my computer.  Even though they may be communicating, it doesn't let me access any pages/screens described to edit or ID anything I rip.  How to get it to access the internet is a problem.  As for the Squeezebox screen, it shows my player is not found.

Re: Squeezebox Transporter/Vortexbox setup for extreme Dummies

It's possible my computer is the monkey wrench in all this.  My VB is connected directly to the router, I CAN access the VB GUI screen from the laptop, but nothing else as described for any practical functions of VB usage.  I can also access the Squeezebox from the VB GUI page, and from an icon on my desktop.  But even though my computer recognizes the VB (obvious since it shows the GUI screen) there is no sign of it anywhere else on the computer.  Not on the control panel, network, devices, no desktop icons which should have shown up, nor any of the normal places it would show, and doing the recommended 'Search" from "Start" on the Windows 7 instructions only shows it mentioned in an e-mail as the only sign of it on the computer.  How is that possible when it can find the GUI screen?  Next thought is the laptop is screwed up, so eliminate the middleman.  Will this work, as far as editing and internet ID access for artists and songs?  If I take an unused keyboard and screen, connect directly to VB (which does recognize the Squeezebox when I click the icon on the GUI), can I perform fully the functions described on the VB forum, get the screens up instead on that screen and not involve the laptop?  And will I have internet access using this setup so I can get the files ID'd?  If the computer IS the problem, taking out that step should resolve all of this, or am I being naive?

[ Edited ]

I don't think you have a laptop problem. First I think you may be confused about what you see on your Vortebox (VBA).  You won't see lots of stuff on your laptop about the VBA. You do ALL your access to the VBA via a webbrowser.  You say you can get to the webGUI of the VB from your laptop. So you see page below. Correct? You'll do everything from here (you won't see control panel, icons, devices, etc. on your laptop desktop....the icons for VB are on this webGUI.  So please confirm that you can get to this point, and then report what you entered in your browser address window to get to this point.

Tried to post the screen I have for GUI but this is all that attached.  Yes, there is a series of icons as you describe on the left, but from what all have mentioned, there should be a "Samba" file screen I can access (?) that will allow to edit and ID files and that does not come up anywhere.  None of the links I have tried give me that, and this screen is the only sign of VB on my computer, and I don't even remember how I got it, so that is why I saved it.

Re: Squeezebox Transporter/Vortexbox setup for extreme Dummies

According to the search panel, I did the number link 192.168.1.8 to get that screen up.  So if this is the first step, what next?  Just rip and then how do I see what I did?  Thanks again for your patience and help.

Re: Squeezebox Transporter/Vortexbox setup for extreme Dummies

No, you don't need a samba screen.  You should see the same VB home screen on the WebGUI that I posted a few posts back. Do you see the screen shot in my post. Does your WebGuI access to the VB look the same?  Not sure why you're worried about SAMBA access, That's all taken care of behind the scenes. You need access to the webGUI for VB. And you have the same thing as I've shown, correct?

Re: Squeezebox Transporter/Vortexbox setup for extreme Dummies

OK. I think you're getting VB WebGUI. But you can't figure out how to access the files once ripped in case you want to edit tags, etc. (which you really shouldn't have to do very often). . I'll post more later on how to do this from a Win7 machine...in the midst of a st pats celebration at the moment.....

but in the meantime, on your laptop, under windows explorer, left panel, click on "network" to expand listing there.  Do you not see a listing called VORTEXBOX, then under this, FILES, then MUSIC, then FLAC  (be careful here, there is also a top listing called music. you don't want this, you want Vortexbox/FILES/MUSIC/FLAC .   And this is where you should see the disks you've ripped with the VB.

Re: Squeezebox Transporter/Vortexbox setup for extreme Dummies

OK, major setback.  I had all screens up yesterday, overnight maintenance shut off computer and now I can't get the VBA GUI page up again.  Network search doesn't show VB anywhere despite being directly connected to router.  I had entered all the router/network info I found with my Verizon installation book in the spaces on the VB GUI network page, but still nothing showing up anywhere on computer search (Control Panel, Search, Network).  And again, now I can't even seem to get the VBA GUI like I had before.  I had ripped 2 more CDs yesterday to see if they showed up anywhere, but nothing evident.  Back to square one.
