Wireless speakers for Squeezebox Touch

Hi, I have a Squeezebox Touch which is plugged into an amp and speakers in my lounge.  I want to be able to hear the music I play in my kitchen and dont want to put cables under the floor to reach the kitchen.

1. So does anyone know if I can simply purchase speakers that would be wireless which would then play in my kitchen or is it not that simple?

2. The squeezebox mini wireless boombox seems to suggest this is possible if you have a bluetooth connection, but I dont have a smartphone and wondered if my saqueezebox touch has the necessary bluetooth connection needed?

Many thanks in advance for your responses!!!

Re: Wireless speakers for Squeezebox Touch

Hello Leedssound,

I understand that you are looking for a resolution to be able to play music in your Kitchen although the Squeezebox Touch is located in your Lounge and you are seeking a wireless solution.

I am afraid that it would simply not be possible. You simply would not be able to hook up to any wireless speakers. It only connects to your amp/speakers using the rca cables.

In addition, the Touch does not have any bluetooth capability so you will not be able to accomplish the output you seek by acquiring a bluetooth mini boombox.

The only plausible solutions you have is to

A, Acquire another Squeezebox (Squeezebox Radio, or Squeezebox Boom(which is out of circulation)) and sync them together

B, Run a speaker cable from your Lounge to your kitchen and then connect some speakers to it.

If you ask me, I would just acquire a Squeezebox Radio and a battery pack. This way, not only would you be able to listen to the music played in your lounge in your kitchen, but you willl also be able to carry the Radio anywhere you go inside your house.

If the battery depletes, all you have to do is plug it into an AC outlet and it will get re-charged.

 Hope this helps.

Take Care

Re: Wireless speakers for Squeezebox Touch

Hi Beast Company, thanks for the very helpful reply.

It would appear that my options are limited for additioanl speakers other than to buy new hardware that has bluetooth capability.

If I was starting all over again (and I sold my current Squeezebox) what would you suggest I look to purchase to make my original request work (thus possibly making additional wireless speakers in other rooms possible).

Many thanks for your help.

Re: Wireless speakers for Squeezebox Touch

check out this thread:

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?93039-Wireless-speakers-for-Squeezebox-Radio&highlight=...

wireless speakers are not that well thought of, but could be worth a try. Almost any wireless speakers would work. Plug in transmitter to headphone jack or line out of the SB player.  But again, quality may not be that great.

Best way to have music in separate rooms is to have SB players in each room, and then these can be synched or you can play different things in different rooms, all using the same single source of music.

Re: Wireless speakers for Squeezebox Touch

or if you have an iphone (or other smart phone), you can turn the smart phone into a SB player. For example, iPENG for the iphone or iPENG for the iPAD, or squeezepad for the iPAD, will all function as SB players that can be synced to your other SB players.  Then you could simply have a iphone dock of some sort in the kitchen that you place your iphone in to listen.

I use my ipad as a SB player while sitting on the porch often, while synched to other players inside the house.

Re: Wireless speakers for Squeezebox Touch

Hi garymc

Thanks for your replies.  Sorry my technical know-how is not very good so I would like to check a few things.

I dont have a smartphone at the moment, so I need to look firstly at the wireless speaker route.  I have a squeezebox touch and what I like about the squeezebox touch is the ability to play the music via my lounge speakers (via audio cable from the amp to the speakers) so if I was starting over again with my set up, what could I use to replace the functionality of the squeezebox but would still connect to my lounge amp and speakers and provide bluetooth capability?  I am not sure Squeezebox Radio would do this?

Alternatively could I keep the Squeezebox Touch, purchase the Logitech wireless adapter and then a mini boombox for the wireless speakers - would that work?

Thanks for your help

Re: Wireless speakers for Squeezebox Touch

First, not sure of your budget, but I have to believe that wireless blutooth speakers and/or boombox to connect to such speakers will cost as much as my suggestions below.

Second, have you actually heard any decent bluetooth wireless speakers in a home stereo situation that sounded decent.  I have NOT and wouldn't even consider that option for myself.

So, the best approach, in my opinion (and what I do myself) is to have a second SqueezeBox player in the other room. This player can be connected back to your router via WIFI.  And with this second player you can either play identical output as from the first player (synched) or you can play different things in both rooms. And you can control this second player from the TOUCH in the other room if you desire.  To get this second player, you have several options:

1. SB radio (if the second room is small, kitchen, etc. this is more than enough)

2. SB Boom (you'd need to get second hand, but is very nice and a bit more oomph than the Radio)

3. SB Touch connected to some self-powered speakers. I really like the audioengine A2s or A5s, depending on size of the room.

Some of these items (Radio and Touch) go on sale on a regular basis, so you can get them fairly cheap if you watch for deals. But even at full price for the Touch (299) it is quite a bargain in my opinion.

Re: Wireless speakers for Squeezebox Touch

And you may not fully understand, that one of the key benefits of the SB family of networked music players is that they form the basis of a "whole house" audio system.  I'm not sure logitech does a good job of making this clear (unlike SONOS, who makes this point very clear).

The Touch would be able to play audio out of the standard setup via RCA cables and your receiver as well as you can have wireless speakers hooked up via passthrough RCA's or by using the 3'5mm headphone jack. Both the RCA and 3.5mm outputs produce audio simultaneously.

Re: Wireless speakers for Squeezebox Touch

Hi I have had same issue as you, and have now found that Audio Pro have a workable solution.

Using their TX 100 connected to the RCA of the Squeezebox in my living room. Then I have wireless speakers in same room. in the kitche I have used the RX 100 connected to my stereo. By this same sound is played in both rooms.

I then use my TAB to remotely manage the Squeeze box.
