airplay to squeezebox (classic)

is there coming airplay support to squeezebox players (and in my case the classic)? i see that stuff like boxee box has airplay support (i can watch a video or listen to a tune from my iphone to the boxee box) so it should work with the squeezebox too? i want to be able to play tunes from the iphone (like spotify, itunes, ipod or just audio from youtube) and get it to play from/thru the squeezebox instead and regarding the license and stuff.. if boxee box legally does it so could you! that is the only thing im missing on the squeezebox, if i get that my squeezebox will be complete :smileyhappy:

No, doesn't work and never will with existing hardware.

You need to use a chipset licensed from Apple to support AirPlay (the chipset has the keys built in).

Well thats kind of a "lie" as the boxee box doesnt have such a chipset and they are legally using AirPlay-support. (im using it right now)

So another answer please :smileyhappy:

If logitech doesnt want to implement it thats another matter and just say so. But please dont make things up..

Highly unlikely to happen for a number of reasons.  For starters Boxee + AirPlay is just experimental at this point.

Also, even if Logitech wanted to implement it, Apple would be reluctant to license AirPlay to Logitech.  Logitech (then SlimDevices) tried repeatedly to license the Apple/iTunes DRM and was repeatedly told "no" by Apple.

Re: airplay to squeezebox (classic)

Are you sure the Boxee solution is officially licensed?

There are hacks that use cracked AirPort codes, there are solutions using this for Squeezebox, too.

But Apple's rules on this (I know them) are pretty clear: everyone can use it (at least since it's dubbed AirPlay, not AirTunes anymore; don't know about before) but you need to participate in Apple's licensing program and they do NOT give you the keys but require you to purchase the chipset that does already have the keys built in.

Airplay is a specific item that works just with Apple products.

I cannot comment on what Boxee has done, but out players only work with wireless routers.

What are you wishing to do?

I'd start with a search for such items here:

Re: airplay to squeezebox (classic)

catlogitech: i want to be able to start audio from my iphone (like from the ipod, spotify-app, itunes or even only audio from youtube) so it streams and plays from the squeezebox.

in other words, just like the apple airplay-function does.
