Squeezebox Players

i have just purchased a squeezebox radio, but have had a couple of issues with getting it setup, firstly it had really poor wifi reception, which has been solved by upgrading the external aerial on the router, but it is now refusing to connect to my network.  Every time i go through the process, it comes up with the message "you entered xxxxxxxx, unfortunately we have been unable to connect with this password". 

It connected once, for about 5 minutes before dropping out and returning to the same message.  I have tried a factory reset of the radio and the router, but it still says the same thing

I am running the old white sky netgear router and have not had any issues with any of my other equipment, which includes a squeezebox duet and readynas.

Any ideas, as this is really beginning to annoy me now!

Is your network name (SSID) unique to only your WiFi?  i.e.  It is not trying to connect to your neighbors WiFi also called "netgear"?  Tried with no encryption (just temporarily to test)?  Tried with player closer to the router?  Sure passphrase is correct with no spaces?  Sure encryption type is correct (WEP, WPA, WPA2)?

yes to all of the above!

i even changed my wireless access password to see if that was an issue, but still got the same message.  i had to reconnect everything else with the new password and they all linked up with no problems.
