One thought, posting this in the gaming forum would get you more responses
I would try updating your video card driver. Old drivers are the root of all evil in lots of games. Also it looks like FIFA has some issues. If you do a Google search on "fifa 06 crash" you get lots of hits involving all sorts of different hardware. I would check with whoever makes FIFA and see if they have any patches.

Seriously the problem you're facing now is general with all gamepads from Logitech and it seems from my point of view Logitech is the one responsible. By the way they poorly handle their customers and the lack of after sale services I wont be surprise that Logitech didn't put the necessary efforts to develop new games in partnership with companies like EA.
Ounce in the past I did change my Logitech WingMan Extreme gamepad for the Logitech Corldess Rumblepad because it was not compatible with the newest game. But for sure I wont change it again. So if I'm stuck to buy a new gamepad never again it will be a Logitech.
I found a solution for your problem go check this link ... http://www.gamecopyworld.com/ choose a server, find FIFA06, download the file named FIFA 06 v1.1 [ENGLISH] GamePad Fixed EXE, unpack it and replace your file call fifa06.exe. Enjoy !
