Z-5 Remote Control Issues

[ Edited ]

I bought these speakers yesterday for my birthday after a long search.  Admittedly, I didn't research them  as much as I usually would, but When I do so I never manage to find something I like.  I chose the Z-5 over other speakers (including other Logitech ones) mainly because of the remote control.  I installed the software from the CD, it failed to work.  I then downloaded the "updated software" from the site, and it also failed.  I changed the default output to the Z-5 speakers and  tried to play something in iTunes. Yes, the sound worked,  but the remote still didn't.  I need the functionality of the remote, or I will have wasted $AU206, and an hour and a half drive to another city to buy them.

I'm running Mac OS X 10.5.8 which I  assumed would  be compatible, seeing as the box says Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later.  After scanning through the other posts, it seems to me that this may not be a platform specific issue?  If you are still selling these speakers, you should continue to create updates that are compatible with computer updates.

Anyone else had similar issues and managed to solve them, or should I cut my losses and return them?

Thanks

EDIT: I didn't do this before but I went into applications -> logitech z-5 speakers and selected itunes as my default music player.  I THOUGHT that this made it work because I pressed the music note button a few times and then iTunes came up, BUT I couldnt' get it to work again so I went back into it and chose iTunes as my default again and when I pressed done, lo and behold, iTunes popped out.  I'm hoping I can get this to work or I'm definitely returning them and exchanging them for something else.

Re: Z-5 Remote Control Issues

I feel like a bit of an idiot now, but it's working.  After rebooting (multiple times) the remote is working.  Thank God!

Z5 Remote will NOT work.

Installed 24 Jan 10.  Nothing on remote changes anything.  All coverings on speakers have been removed.  Battery is fine.  Now what?

Z5 remote won't work

I literally just opened my speakers and remote, and installed the drivers as well. The speakers work fine, but the remote that comes with them doesn't do anything. I have no idea why, I checked the battery in the remote and the drivers seem to be ok. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Z5 remote won't work

Any buttons I press get no response.  I've setup the configuration to open iTunes when pushing the musical note button but when I do nothing happens.  Pressing the power button also does nothing, the speakers continue to operate (no mute).  I guess I am expecting the remote to do those things, as of now it is just a paperweight.

Thanks!

Re: Z5 remote won't work

Hi,

The remote probably works but the IR receiver in the speakers maybe defective. Make sure the protective film is off the base of the right speaker.

If you still have issues, please contact Technical Support for a replacement.
