On Skype, WebCam 905 doesn't show "monitor" of our side

[ Edited ]

When we Skype with our daughter, the onscreen "monitor", if it appears at all, shows another copy of her image, and not an image of us. So I can't really aim the camera, without just asking them if it looks OK.

What could be causing this?

Thanks.

Hello PatrioLefty

Here are some steps that you can try:

-Log in to Skype

-Go to "Tools"

-Click "Options"

-Go to "Video Settings"

-Make sure the Logitech C905 webcam is selected

-Check too if you see your image in the preview box

Hi dalelogi,

Thanks for the reply. Thought I hadn't gotten any. I tried your suggestion this a.m. We'll see when I have a computer to call to, whether it works out. I saw a setting in Tools>Options>Video Settings about sharing, which I changed. We'll see.

Do you know of any way to test my Skype, other than the "Echo" sound testing site? Thanks.

Hi again, dalelogi,

I tried the settings as you suggested, they were all in order AFAICT. Don't know where to go with this.

Re: On Skype, WebCam 905 doesn't show "monitor" of our side

Hello PatrioLefty,

Since the settings on Skype are in order and there isn't a way to test the video on Skype. The picture in picture mode will show you a small picture of yourself when the other end picture is in full screen mode:

These are the options you get during a Skype call, the last one G is the one we need to try:

    Video calling buttons

A)  Hide or reveal your Contacts, Facebook, or Recent lists.

B) Show the IM window so you can instant message the person you are talking to.

C) Turn your webcam off so the other person can’t see you.

D) Mute your microphone so the other person can't hear you.

E) Send files, send contacts, share your desktop, take a picture or add people to the conversation and make it a group video call with Skype Premium.

F) Check your call quality information and adjust your volume.

G) View or exit full screen mode.

Please try this on your next call to check if you can get a picture of yourself.

Looking forward to your reply,

Paulina

Re: On Skype, WebCam 905 doesn't show "monitor" of our side

This turned out to be a Skype issue, not a Logitech issue. The caution in one FAQ I saw, that if the camera is working, the camera is working, (!) reminded me to go external.

Here is the setting that was questionable, and its correct setting (in Skype, not in Logitech software):

To remove the external thumbnail of the other party, click on Tools > Options > Calls and uncheck "Show call controls when Skype is in the background."

Thanks, all, for the attention paid to this issue.
