Video Chat Applications (Non-Logitech)

I have the Logitech Webacm C500 installed on my Windows 7 64 bit PC.  When I first installed it, a year or so ago, I had no issues.  I am now using it more as part of my family has moved.  While we are talking, my video suddenly goes away.  I then hit the video button on Skype and it comes back, but then I sound like either Alvin the chipmunk or more like a fast forward recording.  I cannot be understood.  I have no idea how to solve this issue.  Yesterday my son had to call me back at least 4 times in our conversation.  That should not be happening, but I do not know what to do to fix it.  Any suggestions are appreciated.
