Uploading to Internet site

I have Installed the QuickCam Pro 9000.

However, I don't see any option in the software to upload to my internet site.  I could do it with the old cheap ($20.00) Creative Labs webcam but so far not from this one.

What am I missing?

Thanks for your help.

Re: Uploading to Internet site

Thanks for the quick reply.

I am a novice as you could tell from the question.

Any suggestions for third party software?  I note you mentioned Camstreams in another post, though the question was a little different.   I assume that would serve my purpose as well?

Thanks,

Re: Uploading to Internet site

I just installed the QuickCam Orbit AF, and would be interested in knowing what third-party software I will need to get live video on my web page.

I tried it with one thrid-pary program and it still wouldn't work.

Thank you.

Re: Uploading to Internet site

Mine is live stream, not FTP.  Still trying to get the 3rd party software (Camstream) to work, however.  I didn't help matters by switching from my desk top to my lap top!

The 9000 Pro device works fine. as stand along (though I have not tried it with another computer for family chat etc.) ....but the Camstream upload is problematic....and I know that is not your problem.  I do wish the Logitech webcam software was more helpful in that regard.

A related question, however, is whether or not the webcam can be activated by any method other than "Quick Capture" which writes everything to hard drive.  Is there not some software that simply extracts the streaming video rather than recording it?  Again, I know that's a "third party" issue (I assume) but for this novice, setting up the webcam has become far more complex than I had anticipated.  (I must add that the "cheap webcam" I referenced in the initial e-mail was, in fact, an FTP file uploaded and NOT streaming video....but all the software to do that was included.  So I don't mean to imply an apples to apples comparison.  Logitech has a good name,.....but it seems to me that something of that nature (internet uploading) could be provided with the device or, at the least, at the website.

Any help you can or anyone else can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Uploading to Internet site

[ Edited ]

The tutorial above was very helpful...thanks for pointing it out.

Is it safe to say that all software that uploads the webcam to an internet site will require a public address for the encorder to work....in turn requiring a reconfiguration of the router?  My camera works fine, my encoder works fine (Camstreams) but the router's dynamic (private) address is blocking it even though my ISP provides it with a public address.

Is that summary correct in your judgement?  The router must be re-configured to forward the ISP address no matter what?

Thanks for your continuing efforts to sort through this for us.

Re: Uploading to Internet site

Hi jackbmc,

Make sure you set your port forwarding on your router to recognise the port number you have selected for your camstream broadcast. So within your router settings, look at the I.P. number that your router already sees for your PC, then under "port forwarding" within the router settings, make sure the I.P address that it sees has the port number added at the end, so for example it should look like 192.xxx.xxx.xxx:XXXX (Port Number)

Hope this helps.

Re: Uploading to Internet site

Thanks for replying.

With some help from the tutorial above, (though I chose not to use the Microsoft Encoder) and from some other sites and boards, I was able to get it up and running.  Being new and cautious I was just reluctant to tinker with the router...it has worked so well for several years.

Everything is fine now and the Pro 9000 meets my needs.  I would like to gravitate to a good wireless webcam but keep getting dissuaded from that.....perhaps I will find some good suggetions on this board when that time comes.
