Can I use an IR Illuminator with my webcams?

Hi.  I own three Logitech Webcams which I use for my wecam site, JerseyCam .  They include a Communicate STX, a Communicate MP, and a Orbit MP.  I would like to allow my visitors to view the cams when the lights are off, and was wondering if I bought some LED IR illuminators, would the Logitech cams be able to see in darkness?  I tried to locate someone to email, such as a engineer, but could find no one.  I'm hoping the people in the forums here could help me out.  If anyone knows any particulars, such as the best wavelength to get, that would be most helpfull.  I would like to know before I purchase a illuminator, so I don't end up wasting money on one.

Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the Logitech Community Webcam Forum gitemstevedave! :smileyhappy:

The camera lens assembly contains a built-in IR filter, so what you are trying to accomplish will not be possible.

Thanks.

Re: Can I use an IR Illuminator with my webcams?

Does it block all IR light, or just certain wavelengths?  I can see the light from my remote control when I point it at the camera, so it can pick up the light, and maybe I found illuminators that do different wavelengths.

Re: Can I use an IR Illuminator with my webcams?

I'm confused, does this mean no one else can answer the question?  If not, then which support should I contact as there are mnay listed on the link you sent, including this forum.

Since this is a "Users Discussion Forum", anyone is free to respond to your question.

The reason that I directed you to Logitech itself is because you will most likely get an answer faster that way. :smileywink:

Thanks.
