This is a complex problem. Sorry in advance.
I am using a QuickCam for Notebook Pro -- (P/N and PID unknown - the tag with this info is not on my camera -- perhaps I cut it off, but I don't recall doing so).
I am using the latest driver downloaded from the support center (qc1180.exe)
I am running Windows XP Pro with SP2
I am putting them in our arcade game (www.roboticamusements.com). This application will eventualluy used 1000's of these cameras.
Of course I am writing custom code to interface with your camera.
Everything works but... ...my application has to be able to reboot my PC from time to time. After this software requested reboot occurs, the driver for the camera is whacked. In particular, the exposure control is screwed up (this is my most important function). I can reboot the PC manual (or even unplug the PC and restart it) without causing this problem. Once it occurs, rebooting manually does not fix the problem.
As far as I know, there are only two ways to fix this problem:
- Reinstall the driver for the camera or
- unplug the camera, wait a few seconds, and replug the camera in.
This a huge deal. I cannot proceed without a fix or work around for this.
If I cannot avoid the problem in the first place, then a software method (something I can do in Visual Basic .NET) would be acceptable.
I can detect the problem in software (my exposure control is flipped -- I set it to -12 and it reads back -1) so I know when I would have to do this but I just don't know what to do.
Please help me.

Thanks.
I have posted there as well (http://forums.quickcamteam.net/showthread.php?tid=
I am not sure that this is really developer's problem or not. There are many applications that reboot the PC. Perhaps some of them ause this problem as well. By the way, the driver gets trashed whether the camera is being used or not (i.e. even when my custom app is not running during a software requested reboot)
It seems like this may not be n isolated case. Or at least I hope not because then I have a hope of being able to find a solution ;-)

Since this is not possible/desirable in your specific application (i.e.: you are looking for a software related solution), I personally feel that the QuickCam® Team website is the best place to get assistance with this issue.
