Logitech Webcam 500
M/N: V-U0006
P/N: 860-000177
PID: LZ016SN
- AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual, 2.86 GHz
- 4GB RAM
- about 200GB free disk space
- Windows XP with all patches (SP 3) and service packs.
- NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS, dated 09.07.2010, version 6.14.12.5896
- Dual monitor (one analog, the other digital)
Problem:
- Using the most recent Logitech drivers for the cam (downloaded today) with lvuvc.sys version 13.1.1021.0, causes an error in starting Windows. After the "load-screen", windows does not start, i.e. I cant log on, the two screens remain black.
What did I do:
- Renaming the "lvuvc.sys", avoiding to load it.
- Installed the cam with UVC drivers
This helped, but disabled all the functionality of the cam, which are desired!
Question:
- Is this problem known? (I did not found any corresponding thread)
- What do I have to do for using the shipped Logitech software and its features, i.e. is there a WORKING version of lvuvc.sys?
Thanks for your feedback!

Does this issue occur when the Logitech Webcam Software (LWS) 2.00.1783 (a.k.a. QuickCam 13.00.1783) is installed?
Thanks.

Hello KachiWachi
Thanks for your quick reply... yes, as I wrote, i used the most recent version of LWS 2.1.1025.0 which i downloaded from the site.
I forgott to say, that the installation of the lws took very long and it stuck at the driver installation... after some unusual long time the installer did his work and endet normally.
Thanks for your appreciated feedback!

I did install the older driver version 2.00.1783.0 and tried again... same thing.
What I noticed was the still existing lag in the installation procedure (full install), hanging for about 8 minutes at the "Logitech-Webcamera-Driver" at 44%. If only installed the driver part, it hangs for about the same time at 99% and ends up with an BSOD, claiming the usbaudio.sys with a Stop: 0x000007E message!!!
The problem itself persits. With the plugged in camera, windows shows the splash screen and does not initialize the second monitor... instead of showing the logon screen, it stays black. If I reset and plug the camera out, Windows starts normally.
After booting the system, I tried to connect the cam, which shows up at the device manager as "Webcam 500" -> Audio and "Logitech Webcam 500" und the camera device (sorry, does not know the correct description, I have a German Windows).
Tried to install the driver with windows save mode, which does not work.
Uninstalled drivers, installed under safe mode, same problem. Disabled 2nd Monitor... same problem.
.... now its getting wired:
Somehow I was trying to exclude some possibly interferring things, like the Webcam Audio driver... I went to the device manager and tried to disable the driver. It took a hell of a time and I had to cancel it.
Before giving up, I checked again with the LWS software, residing next to the clock... and... TATATAAA the camera has been recognized!
I tried to reproduce this fact and enabled the sound driver again... disabled it again and received a bluescreen, claiming a problem with the usbaudio.sys driver, "Stop: 0x0000007E...". Could not reproduce the mentioned situation and I ended up at the very same point... black screen, no logon possible.
I am really stuck here and I am starting to just test out everthing which comes in my mind. If you have some other ideas, I am happy to try them!
Update... got an old (SP 2) usbaudio.sys and copied it into system32\drivers... but, it seems to be the very same problem, BSOD and nothing more.

Somekind of desperate I just pluged the cam out of the USB 2.0 slot and pluged it in to the slower one.... and it works!
The computer starts up correct and even the audio is working like a charm!
Looking at the devices I use at the 2.0 slots, there is nothing special, just a logitech mouse (no dedicated driver installed for this one), nothing more. This shouldnt be the problem.
So I had a quick look at the device manager and... humm... I dont know, if this is wright...
http://yfrog.com/jnusbcontrollerj
(tried to put the pic here directly, didnt worked)
In real, I have 4 USB 2.0 slots at the back and 2 slower ones in the front. But Windows claims, that I would have in total 8 slots:
How do I have to understand this?! Is there an internal hub, which, I know from all the thread I read here, is not supported by the webcam???
I do not need additional USB slots... how may I change this?!
Oh... for sure you helped me alot, KachiWachi and I would like to thank you for your kind assistance and... for any more input on this one.
P.s.: I saw the cam working and I looooved it!

Sorry for another post...
I just read http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Webcams/QC-Communica
My question... is this problem still actual?! Could this fit my problem as well?
Using the newest VIA HyperionPro (4in1) V5.24A did not helped... As I am using USB on-board, would it be possible to buy an add-on card for the logitech cam, disabling the on-board USBs?
I have to commit, I am a total beginner in such things... but eager to learn and get this cam working ![]()
Thank for your feedback!

Hm, BSOD... this is all a bit strange. ....I believe thats not a problem of the webcam or graphic card. I think thats a curious problem with the VIA chipset on your mainboard. Maybe an IRQ conflict. Maybe a seperate USB controller would not help you because its connected over the VIA chipset. Would be better to test the cam with the latest software on another pc with dual graphic to exclude thats not the cams problem.

Thank for the hints!
KachiWachi, I did reffered to this artikle you linked me to as well. I looked at my bios and didnt found many corresponding points, those which I found, I corrected with no success. I as well installed an "USB Filter" Software, which is from http://www.usbman.com/Guides/VIA%20Tips%20and%20Tr
@modernartistry: I do not have access to another Dual Monitor System, I would have tried it some time ago, if I could. As well, it is somehow hard to explain, why it works on the USB 1.1 slot, same configuration of VGA Driver and so on...
On the other hand, it really reminds me of some IRQ Problem, which I thought they wouldnt exist anymore ![]()
I will try to get such an internal USB Card and report back. As I am in Brazil, near the amazon, it is quite difficult for me to get computer parts but I will try my best and report back.
Any other feedback is most appreciated!
