HD Webcam C510 sound controller not installing properly

[ Edited ]

Hiya! I've just bought the Logitech C510 webcam today, and I'm very pleased so far. It works great on my Windows 7 machine.

Unfortunately, when I bring it over to my Windows XP box, the drivers don't install properly. In particular, the driver for the Mic.

When I perform a clean install (using the directions here), I run into the problem seen in this image:

The generic error code (Code 1) that Windows gives me tells me nothing other than that the driver didn't install/ configure properly. When I view the properties of the problematic driver, I see:

I can retrieve information from the details tab if necessary.

Can anyone help me with this problem? I really want to start enjoying this product, and I appreciate any advice/ help/ fixes gives. Thanks so very much.

EDIT:: Sorry for not being able to embed images. The "Load image" option in the *another site* tab wasn't working...

Welcome to the Logitech Community Webcam Forum HappyDude! :smileyhappy:

Does this issue occur when the camera microphone is installed in Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Class Mode?

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply :smileyhappy:

How do I check whether or not the driver is being installed UAA class mode? (Or rather, how do I install the driver in UAA to see if it works?)

EDIT:: *sigh* I've tried installing UAA stuffs via instructions here, but it isn't working. Also tried this solution to no avail.

EDIT 2:: KachiWachi, if what you were suggesting was the same (or similar) to the solution you mentioned here, http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Webcams/Audio-Problems-on-the-c510-Windows7/td-p/460543, I am unable to fulfill the step mentioned at

Select [Generic USB Audio] -> USB Audio Device -> Click Next.
     (The device installs)

The driver is not listed (most likely because I nLited my installation). Is there a way I can retrive the generic driver from a Windows XP install disk? (Because I have a disk available.)

Re: HD Webcam C510 sound controller not installing properly

[ Edited ]

FINAL EDIT (problem solved :smileyhappy: !! Thanks for the push in the right direction, KachiWachi :smileywink: !!)::

The problem: HD Webcam C510 sound controller/ driver not installing correctly.

Solution (for me)::

1) ks.inf, wdmaudio.inf, and wdma_usb.inf should be in the C:\WINDOWS\inf directory

  • I did not have wdma_usb.inf

2) Obtained wdma_usb.inf from http://www.infdump.com/inffiles/W/WDMA_USB.INF

3) Placed downloaded file to C:\Windows\inf and right-clicked install

4) The USBAUDIO.sys driver was missing, and I obtained it from http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/xphardware/thread/a9b12f80-aaa0-4ec2-b366-7abe88c94...

  • NOTE: I am running Windows XP SP3

5) Uninstalled Logitech drivers for a clean install, and reinstalled drivers. Viola! It works :smileyvery-happy: !!

Thanks very much!! Now, to tag relevant posts :smileywink:

@KachiWachi:

In my C:\WINDOWS\inf directory, I can find ks.inf and wdmaudio.inf.

I CANNOT find wdma_usb.inf. Is there a way I can get this file/ driver? (Is it possible for users to upload a copy of their driver onto forums for me to use?)

What can I do now?

EDIT:: Would it be too hasty of me to download and (right-click) install WDMA_USB.inf from http://www.infdump.com/inffiles/W/WDMA_USB.INF ?

EDIT 2:: Interesting... The .inf file from above doesn't appear in the directory even after an install. What can I do now?

Even doing a command line install (via executing rundll32 syssetup,SetupInfObjectInstallAction DefaultInstall 128 .\WDMA_USB.inf) reports that installation has failed. Erm... Help [>.<] ?

EDIT 3:: Excellent. Placing the WDMA_USB.inf to the %windir%/inf directory allowed me to install from there, and now, after uninstalling all webcam drivers again (and performing another install), a single USB device appears on Sound Controllers. I did this because I was following the instructions that necc gave here- which is also a WDMA_USB.inf issue. Let's see if it works...

EDIT 4:: USBAUDIO.sys from the Windows XP install disk was required. File retrieved from http://forums.techguy.org/3562564-post2.html. That file didn't work (most likely because it was designated for SP2? I'm not sure)-- so I got a file from http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/xphardware/thread/a9b12f80-aaa0-4ec2-b366-7abe88c94... -- and so far, so good :smileyvery-happy: !!
