I lost my Installation CD , what should I do ? My camera has a exclamation mark in Device Manager

Dear sir/madam
I have a Quickcam Communicate STX bur unfortunately I lost its installation CD and I'm going to install it on a Windows XP SP2 laptop.
I have downloaded the required software from the site but after I installed it , it asks me to connect you camera to the PC and I connect it but nothing happened. Also I have an exclamation mark in my device manager in fron of my Camera . It seems that the driver has a problem.
How can I get its driver files ?
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Regards.

Re: I lost my Installation CD. My camera has a exclamation mark in Device Manager

Hi aaky

In regards to your issue I would suggest that you install the driver manually. You can extract the setup file you downloaded fromt he Logitech site to a folder. Use the Add Hardware feature in control panel to detect the camera and follow the instructions to install the drivers manually. Direct the instalshield to the folder you extracted from the setup files and obtain the drivers in the folder.

Please update us again at your earliest convenience.

Thank you & have a nice day.

Re: I lost my Installation CD , what should I do ? My camera has a exclamation mark in Device Managr

Hi tfung
Thanks for your help.
I did what you told me. I tried to install the driver manually from the Device Manager. when it asked me about the path of the driver's files I gave it this path which is on my PC : C:\Program Files\Logitech\QuickCamWebInstall\Drivers\x32\ .
There are about 6 different folders in this path which are : 321 , ELCH , IM , PRO , PRO3 , S213 , SCBY , VLMA. I tried all of them but it says that the driver's files could not be find in these paths.
Would you please let me know what should I do ?
Cheers

Re: I lost my Installation CD , what should I do ? My camera has a exclamation mark in Device Managr

Hi aaky

I assume that you have Zip application instal on your system and downloaded the QuickCam 10.5 and have it saved on the desktop. Please follow the simple steps below to reinstall the drivers manually again.
  1. Remove the camera and other USB devices (except keyboard & mosue) from USB ports.
  2. Right click on qc848enu.exe and choose Extract to qc1051enu\
  3. Plug the camera to other USB port
  4. Once you plug in the USB camera, Add Hardware Wizard will prompt (if it doesn’t prompt, go to Windows Control Panel and choose Add Hardware.
  5. When the wizard ask “Can windows connect to the internet to search for the drivers”, choose “No, not at this time and click Next to continue”.
  6. On the next screen, choose “Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)”, and click Next to continue
  7. On the next window, check on the box reading “Include this location in the search”, and click Browse.
  8. On browse folder window, locate the drivers from the folder you extracted earlier (Step 2) on the desktop.
  9. Choose IM and click Ok to continue.
  10. If you get message saying Cannot Install This Hardware, go back to Figure 4 and choose ELCH, MSGR, or PRO2 for second attempt.
  11. Restart your computer when the driver installation completed.

Please update us again at your earliest convenience.

Thank you & have a nice day.

First off, let me thank Support Specialist tfung for his assistance.

Unfortunately, he may have caused you more harm than good at this point.

Before we continue, please positively identify your camera model by telling me the 8xxxxx-series number from the camera tag, or the USB\VID ID.

Thanks.

Re: I lost my Installation CD , what should I do ? My camera has a exclamation mark in Device Managr

M/N: V-UM14A
P/N: 861168-0000
USB\VID_046D&PID_08F5 ; Communicate

This is just what I expected.

Your initial post states that you have an STX when in fact you do not. You have the original Communicate, which takes QuickCam software version 8.4.8.

Please download the correct software for your camera and try again.

@tfung -

Don't worry...people make this mistake all the time. It is why I verify the exact camera model each time an STX is mentioned...especially when the OP states that is not detected properly after installing the "correct" software.

Thanks.
