Immediate BSOD during Hardware Installation

I am hoping someone can help me with this.  I have a new Quick Cam Fusion I am trying to install.  The software install goes fine.  On reboot, I plug the camera in, hit Next and the next screen reports the camera is not connected.  Ten seconds later I get a non-specific blue screen.  If I cancel the Logitech setup and let windows install, after it recognizes the Quick Cam Fusion, it Blue Screens on me.  This appears to be when the mic is loading which would be consistent with the other threads I have read on BSOD.  I have went into Safe Mode, installed the camera fine, part of the reason I know the mic loads after the camera, have disabled the mic in safe mode, but it still tries to install when I boot normally.  I was also unable to see any picture while in Safe Mode.  I have no idea if I am fighting the mic conflict or just have a DOA camera.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am running on XP SP2 with all the latest software and drivers, plenty of RAM and hard drive space.

Re: Immediate BSOD during Hardware Installation

Same situation here.

I just installed the software and then the QuickCam Pro 5000, and the first time running it, as I was trying it out, I got the first BSOD that I have had in five years.

Now it autostarts, and if I open the software at all from the systray I crash - serious error, shutdown before you damage your computer, etc. And all this on a new PC I just received Tuesday.

I cannot uninstall the software, as I guess because it is already running. But I cannot seem to shut it down. This is not a very good piece of software, as there is no way to turn it off from the systray icon. But as soon as I open/maximize it, it crashes the PC.

Any thoughts?

And I agree that it did seem to be the mic that caused the initial crash, as that was what I was doing at the time.

I was able to remove the software through safe mode and tried downloading from the website.  Same problem.  I just wish I could tell if the camera is functioning.

Re: Immediate BSOD during Hardware Installation

The video preview on mine looked OK. But then I got a message about something else using the microphone, and to shut it down. Though there is nothing else that I can find that was using the mic. I actually think that the QuickCam software was still using it. The mic setup had just run when I was previewing a video.

Plus, as this is literally a brand new PC, there is not a whole lot else that could have used it - actually nothing I have installed uses the mic.

I'll give safe mode a try and see if I can clean it up. Then, since it appears that this is a known issue that has no resolution as yet, I guess I'll have to leave my new Cam sit until they come up with a fix.

Thanks.
