FYI anyone who's still following this. Logitech sent me a new C200 which also doesn't work. I think this confirms my original thoughts that this is a software issue not a hardware issue. I'm trying to work with support to solve this. If I ever solve it, I'll post back here.

@dovie,
I tested the C310 and the light came on when motion detection was triggered. I will do some more test tomorrow with the C200, I'm expecting to get the same results and if that is the case, I will confirm this issue with the engineering team and provide you some feedback.
Thanks,

@pedroc Thanks.
Here's the latest update. I think I have it working. I think it was a combination software and hardware issue.
They sent me the new C200 and it didn't work either. I got on the phone with tech support and, after much discussion, they told me I should uninstall the LWS and install the v1.1 that was on the disc. If that didn't work, they'd send me a C210 to see if that worked.
I did so and the good news was that it worked. However, that software apparently doesn't have motion detection, which is what I needed. So it wasn't much of a solution. Then, on my own, I had the brainstorm of "If something from the old SW is what's doing this, perhaps if I reinstall the original SW I installed (2.25) then uninstall it again, it'll remove the old files too."
So I did that. Then I reinstalled 2.27 and it all worked as expected! No LED in regular or motion detection! Yay! Joy and jubilation!
But then...
I stupidly didn't leave well enough alone and wanted to see if this meant that my original cam worked now. So I unplugged the new C200 and replugged the old C200 and it didn't work. Ok, so I just replugged in the new C200 and...now it didn't work either! *sob*
I immediately tossed the old C200 off to the side and decided to focus on the new one since I saw it *could* work. I uninstalled and reinstalled 2.27, then the v1.1 from the disc and the drivers from the disc all to no avail. Still refused to work. Even in the v1.1 thing by now. On a whim, I decided to reinstall then uninstall the old 2.25 figuring maybe there was something on the old cam itself left over from 2.25 that reinstalled itself when I plugged in the old cam and was causing trouble. Sounded crazy, but I had no other ideas.
So, I uninstalled 2.27 and reinstalled 2.25. Before I uninstalled it, however, I decided to check it out.
It works. I'm not messing with it again!
So now, I'm working off of the 2.25 software. I know it's not the latest, but it works, and with all the trouble I've been having I figured I'd stop once something works for me.
Based on all this, I think it was a combination of the software and hardware. But probably mainly the hardware since I've now seen the new cam work across three different versions of the SW and the original wouldn't work on any of them.
I'd still be curious to know if you find anything out.
Thanks.

Hi Dovie,
I have confimed that this is a bug that is currently being tracked by the software engineers. Unfortunately, curretnly I don't have an ETA when this issue will be addressed but I will update this thread as soon as I find out.
Thanks,

BAH!!!
Ok, here I am, almost exactly a year later and the problem reappeared.
For nearly a year, everything's been fine. Few days ago, I went to use the Motion Detection part and the light flips on. I open up the preferences and the LED control is set to "Off". *scratches head*
I couldn't figure it out so I decided to uninstall and reinstall and now it's even worse!
a) It won't let me stay at 2.25 which was the version that worked.
b) even when I set the LED control to "Off", every time I open up the motion detection, the light goes on and I go back and find that it's reset itself to "Auto"
Thoughts?

Hi Dovie,
I see that the LED issue returned. Are you still on a XP pro? Do you remember making any changes on your PC? Like installing new software or maybe and upgrade or automatic update.
I suggest you try with the latest version of the software LWS 2.31

I'm sorry. Life suddenly got too busy to worry about this and I forgot about it until today when I needed the feature again and realized it's not there.
I was still having issues on the XP box and have moved over to a Win7, 64-bit box. I just downloaded the latest version of the software and the issue persists. I'm sure I'm way out of warranty by now, but I'd really like to find a solution to this problem! It's been literally YEARS now that I've been dealing with this issue!

Hello Dovie,
There is an option within LWS 2.51 that would allow you to turn off the LED of your C200 when the Motion Detection recording is activated. You would need to click on Motion Options, then un-check the option that says Recording Light Indicator, as shown in the image below.
I hope this helps Dovie, please let me know how it goes.
