Logitech C920's microphone stops working randomly in Ubuntu

The mic from the webcam/mic combo stops working after some time of correct work.

Rebooting the computer helps for a little, rebooting ALSA abd snd-usb-audio doesn't.

How to fix this?

Hello iwuvjhdva,

If possible, please try your C920 on a different computer running Windows® XP (SP3 or higher), Windows Vista® and Windows® 7 (32-bit or 64-bit) . This will determine if your camera has a hardware problem.

If you are using an external USB hub, dock or passthrough device, please disable them for trouble shooting. The camera should be plugged directly into the computer. Using the C920 with Ubuntu is an unsupported configuration.

Best Regards,

Re: Logitech C920's microphone stops working randomly in Ubuntu

Thanks for your reply.

I don't have any Windows, I don't use USB hubs. I'm sure that's not a hardware problem.

That's really sad that C920+Ubuntu is unsupported configuration.

Re: Logitech C920's microphone stops working randomly in Ubuntu

I bought a G510 Keyboard, G9x Gaming Mouse, and a C920 HD Webcam.

I agree with the OP that it is sad that there is no official support.

My logitech hardware works great in windows, but the linux side needs help.

I prefer linux, so I guess I may be shopping for new gear soon that is more cross platform friendly.

Re: Logitech C920's microphone stops working randomly in Ubuntu

I had this same issue.  I am using Vista.  Logitech customer service were not able to resolve for me but agreed to give me a refund.

With more research I found the problem and corrected it myself and then call Logitech customer service so that they knew the correct questions to ask the next customer with this problem

Questions:

1) Do you have your C920 plug directly into computer USB port?  I you are using an extension cord you may need an extension that comes with an amplifier to guarantee you are getting the minimum USB 2.0 signal strength

2) Does Windows update history show that windows has updated your Vista computer with three files that are need for the Logitech C920?  Open control panel and go to windows update and then history. NOTE:  Windows update will fail if the camera is not plugged in directly to computer or if you don't have the proper signal strength because you are using an extension for the USB cable.
