WebCam Pro 9000, Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1 all patches, etc.
The Logitech WebCam Software auto-updater opened up and said "there is an update available".
It had one line of limited information about "better algorithms" or some such uselessly vague stuff.
It did NOT include what the new version number would be, nor any kind of formal changelog/release notes information.
A search online also found no changelog or release notes.
And there was no option at all to say "I don't want this update. Don't advise me again until the next update". The updater would stay there in the tray nagging forever until either I turned off updates (bad idea in case an update is security related) or I accepted this update (without knowing whether I want or need it, or whether it would be a good idea at all.)
Making updates easy is necessary.
Making updates "say yes or we'll keep bugging you forever, with no indication of whether you actually need or want this particular one" is miserably bad practice, and can even violate the law in some parts of the world by effectively forcing unknown changes onto a user's computer system without adequately advising the user of the need or content of those changes.
GET BETTER, LOGITECH!

Same camera, also 64-bit Windows 7.
Knowing that this is a pig of an issue, I did not install most of the software in the first place.
You do not need the mess that Logitech foists upon you if all you want to do is to use the webcam in Skype for example. Indeed, if my memory is not completely shot, there is a "business" version of the software for this camera that does not have all the stuff that seems to be designed to amuse five-year olds.
You can even take the minimalist approach and use the drivers that come with Windows. That just might work.
If you don't install the software it should not try to update itself.
