*** Logitech Webcam Software 2.x (a.k.a. QuickCam 13.x) - Issues and Solutions ***

[ Edited ]
Hey all!

For this release of the Logitech Webcam Software, I wanted to make this floated thread to keep track of all the issues... and solutions.

PLEASE DO NOT POST A REPLY HERE.

This thread should be maintained by the Forum Administrators, Community Moderator pedroc, the Support Specialists, and myself... so that there is a common place to find information concerning this version of the software.

Discussions on each issue should have their own threads... as created by you.

I envision it to be a multi-post thread with reference links only, but we'll see how it evolves once the software is released.

Only confirmed issues (three or more instances) with the following software packages will be posted here:

  • Logitech Webcam Software 2.00.1783
  • Logitech Webcam Software 2.01.1025
  • Logitech Webcam Software 2.10.1224
  • Logitech Webcam Software 2.25.1016
  • Logitech Webcam Software 2.27.1020
  • Logitech Webcam Software 2.30.1396
  • Logitech Webcam Software 2.31.1044
  • Logitech Webcam Software 2.40.845.0
  • Logitech Webcam Software 2.51.828.0
  • Logitech Webcam Software 2.80.853.0

If you are new to the forum, please start your own thread for all troubleshooting related issues.

Please do not hijack someone else's thread!!!

ALL INQUIRIES SHOULD INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION:

1) What is the 860-xxxxxx (or 8xxxxx) series number from the camera's identification tag (FAQ #3427), or preferably, its USB\VID ID?

2) Which version of the Logitech Webcam Software application/drivers is installed?

3) What Operating System (OS) and Service Pack (SP) version is installed?

4) Does this issue occur when you are using the camera in the Logitech Webcam Software application (i.e., to create still images and/or videos), in the Logitech® Vid™ video call application, or only in a third-party Instant Messenger program?

If your issue is Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, or MacOS related, please put (Vista), (Windows 7), (Windows 8), or (MacOS) at the end of your Message Subject.

If you are using a 64-bit OS, please also include this information (e.g., XP x64, Vista x64, Windows 7 x64, Windows 8 x64).

For Windows driver and/or software support information, please see FAQ #3428.

For Windows 7 (Build 7600 and up) driver and/or software support information, please see FAQ #13985.

For Windows 8 (Build 9200 and up) driver and/or software support information, please see FAQ #32436.

For legacy camera support (i.e., QuickCam 8.x and below), please see the following thread: Why your (older) Logitech camera *may* not be supported in Vista.

Please note that the information provided in this thread applies to Windows Vista, Windows 7, and to Windows 8.

IMPORTANT!!!

Please post ALL ISSUES that occur in a third-party Instant Messenger program to the Video Chat Applications (Non-Logitech) forum.

Please post ALL ISSUES that occur in the Logitech® Vid™ video call application to the Logitech Vid forum.

Thanks.

[ Edited ]

The Release Notes can be found in FAQ #17022.

For more information, please also see the built-in Logitech Help Center (lws_language.chm) file.

New Feature

Check for updates will provide different individual components rather than one large package for the user to decide on.

The combined 32-bit and 64-bit "check for updates" lws200.exe installer = 4.02 MB (4,224,456 bytes).
This means that the required components will be downloaded via the Internet during the actual installation process.

Note - For 64-bit systems, the LWS_Driver_Installer_x64.exe and the VideoEffects_Release_x64.msi will be downloaded in lieu of their 32-bit counterparts.

IMPORTANT

If you have previously installed a prior version of QuickCam software (i.e. the version which came on CD with your new camera) we suggest that you completely uninstall it before installing this new version.

Released June 10, 2010

First Reported Issue

I receive an error message stating that "We were not able to install the software".

Cause

Unknown at this time.

Current Workaround

Please download the "full" LWS 2.0 installer from:

ftp://ftp.logitech.com/pub/techsupport/quickcam/lws200_full.exe

Please note that this package contains the complete 32-bit Logitech Webcam Software (LWS) 2.00.1783 application/driver installer, the complete 64-bit Logitech Webcam Software (LWS) 2.00.1783 application/driver installer, and a copy of the Logitech Vid HD (v1.70.1044) software application installer - 114 MB (120,201,600 bytes).

Second Reported Issue

The Logitech Face Tracking feature (Follow my face) will not stay enabled.

Cause

Unknown at this time.

Current Workaround

Please contact Logitech Support directly for assistance with this issue.

Third Reported Issue

A considerable amount of Video Noise is present in the camera image (C-Series cameras only).

(Note - This issue also occurs when LWS 1.x is installed.)

Current Status

Logitech is aware of this issue.

Unfortunately, no further information is available at this time.

However, this issue *may* only occur if you have an older AMD K7 series CPU installed.

User Supplied Workaround #1

Please try installing the camera in UVC Mode.

User Supplied Workaround #2

Please try disabling the Logitech RightLight™ feature. (Ref: This thread)

Fourth Reported Issue

I receive a "blank" window when I try to install the software.

Solution

This issue is caused by a minor defect in your Operating System.

Please see the following thread for more information:

http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Webcams/C500-Installer-problem-Windows-7/td-p/523125

Fifth Reported Issue

I see quite a few numbers when I try to install the LWS.

Solution

http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Webcams/I-see-quite-a-few-numbers-when-I-try-to-install-the-LWS/td-p/5...

BSOD with Western Digital SmartWare Application Software

I receive a BSOD referencing ks.sys and/or 0x0000003B when installing the LWS.

Solution

1) Uninstall the SmartWare application.

2) Disable the Western Digital Services while installing the camera software.

Please contact Western Digital Support directly for further assistance with this issue.

For more information, please see the following threads:

http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Webcams/Possibly-Logitech-Webcam-driver-and-WD-SmartWare-conflict/td-p...

http://community.wdc.com/t5/WD-Smartware/WD-Smartware-BSOD-with-Logitech-Pro-9000-Webcam-Connected/t...

Camera Not Recognized by the LWS Application Software

This issue can occur if you have a "virtual" device driver installed, such as the Avnex Virtual Audio Device.

Solution

Uninstall the virtual device driver.

Other Reported Issues

The following previously available software (and/or driver) features are missing/broken:

  • The Microphone Mute feature is not available in the standalone Webcam Controller.
  • The Invert Image (top/bottom) feature is not available.
  • The White Balance control is not available.
  • The keyboard arrow keys no longer control the Pan/Tilt of the camera.
  • The Time Stamp Videos feature is not available.
  • For the C160, the snapshot button does not work.
  • You cannot save the individual camera settings when two (or more) of the same camera is installed.

Current Status

Logitech is aware of these issues.

The missing White Balance control is by design. (Ref: This post)

However, this feature was restored in LWS 2.25.1016.

Otherwise, no further information is available at this time.

Thanks.
