I have a QuickCam 9000.  The sound doesn't record when I set motion detection on.

Sound records without motion detection.

What the deal?

Webcam version 11.0.0.1217

Windows XP SP2

There is a bug in the Motion Detector component.

Audio is recorded, but it cannot be played back.

Hi there,

I have the same problem :-) What's off course is normal when it's a bug...
But are they working on it? Because, that's one of the main reasons I bought this wonderfull cam!!
I tried already the beta, but didn't work neither...

Any idea when it's gone be solved this bug? Or is there a work around for this problem?

AFAIK, there are no workarounds for this issue.

This is not a bug, it is by design.

I asked he engineer that is responsible for this component, and was told it was for legal reasons - as in something about the party that is who's audio is being recorded needs to consent to be recorded.

Obviously, Motion Detector wouldn't work too well if it pop'd a dialog everytime it sensed motion, asking for consent, and sit and do nothing until someone agrees.

Apparently, this legality doesn't cover video-only recording.

So, I guess until U.S. Code and privacy laws are changed, we're stuck with this. Please direct any requests to improve this feature toward your local politician.

If this is the case, why is there audio information displayed in the saved file's "properties"...even though it can't be recovered/played back?

No idea, however, I imagine blank audio could be added to make sure it doesn't blow up Media Player or something.
