POOR image quality with multiple C920 cameras on a single system

I produce professionally with a HD TriCaster 300 and pro cameras (Panasonic P2 family). Newly exploring the amazing C920 which I believe is a game-changer webcam with the h.264 encoding in the camera.

My use is intended for a simple multicam professional interview system so I don't have to lug around the full mobile studio of TriCaster, pro cameras and lights. My target webcam switching software is VidBlaster.

As of tonight, I have validated that I can see all three C920's in VidBlaster and they look, and switch... AMAZING! Great job Logitech with a terrific camera.

The problem I'm having is the image quality formatting across the multiple cameras. The "right light" looks like crap... all washed out, over exposed, and really grainy

My System... kicks **bleep**! My system isn't the problem.

ASUS G75, Sandy Bridge i7

16GB DDR3 RAM

240GB SSD

750GB 7200RPM 2nd HDD

nVidia GeForce 670M with 3GB DDR5

4x USB 3

Here are the settings adjustments I need to make for the camera:

1) shut off "right light"

2) deselect "Auto Gain"

3) decrease gain slider to get rid of grain (making a little darker overall)

4) increase exposure slider to open up light

5) deselect "Audo White Balance"

6) increase white balance slider to warm up image

Bang, great looking image! Amazing C920!!!

Unfortunately, when I save it the settings keep getting lost and blow up when I have multiple of the exact same C920's plugged in. How can I name the cameras idividually in order to apply individual settings? This will be especially true when I have an interview setup and the lighting for the subject is slightly differnet than the host.

LWS needs to know it has different settings for the difference cameras it DOES recognize it has simultaneoulsy to the system. However, it sometimes has a difficultlty going back and forth from camera to camera, seems to forget what it is doing and what the camera shot and image settings should actually be as it switches source feeds.

Help would be GREATLY appreciated!!! Thanks, Brian

Hello VidMarketingU,

As I understand it, you are using three of the HD Webcam Pro C920 on the same computer and you want to know how to apply different settings to each one.

You mentioned that you want to know how to disable RightLight and how to change the settings to each C920. RightLight is one of the default features of the webcam, so every time that you turn on a webcam it would be automatically activated. You also asked if it is possible to change the name of the webcams so they wouldn't be recognized as the same one, but this option is not available within the software. Since LWS recognizes all your webcams as the same webcam, the settings that you make for one would be applied to all them.

The features that you are looking for are not in the Logitech Webcam Software, but I'll be more than glad to forward this information to the right team so they can take a look at your request.

I really hope that you find this information useful VidMarketingU, please let me know if you have further questions.

Re: POOR image quality with multiple C920 cameras on a single system

Thanks for the reply. However, what you described about one setting being waterfalled to all three devices is just not the case. When camera settings are adjusted to improve the poor image quality, it only applies to a single camera, NOT "applied to all them." as you stated.

If all three were indeed exacted in image improvement across all three devices, that would actually help. Unfortunately that's not what happened in reality. Any advice would really help. Many thanks, Brian

I had similar problems, I used these Cameras for doing a Stereo Camera Setup.
I could only control one of the Cameras using the Logitech Software.

I ended up writing a tool for saving and loading settings for different cameras which worked for me.

I even went one step further and also did disassemble the Camera Body, adding a Custom Lens,
which really paved this Webcams way into the High End Sector :-)

I should not forget to mention that doing so would definetly break any warranty on the device :smileyhappy:

Doubt I'd pursue and hardware hacks, but curious aboutsoftware hack. I'm sure others would as well. Thanks

As I got some pm on this thread:

http://www.medienkunstonline.de/CamControl.zip

On first execution an ini-text file is created within the applications current directory.
You can change several parameters in there as well.
