Pro 9000 LWS 2.1 - focus and sound compression

[ Edited ]

Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000:
M/N: V-UBM46
P/N: 860-000109
Windows XP Home SP3

LWS v. 2.10 (compilation 13.10.1224)

Hello,

I have one issue to troubleshoot and one issue I could use your guys' opinion.

The first thing is that since the LWS 2.1 update the webcam's autofocus function can't seem to handle matters too well - the slider automatically moves, however the picture's always a little out of focus - it is only able to catch focus on me when I move further away from the camera (1,5 m vs 0,5 m of my usual sitting distance).

I have had no auto focus issues with the previus iteration of the software.

Another issue I could use some advice on is - I would really really like to turn off the sound compression while recording videos on the camera - I use an external mic (USB condenser studio microphone - Samson C01U) and while the sound quality is significantly better then the one I get with the built in mic - the compression is horrible (even after Right Sound is disabled). The sound produced by LWS (and the previous logitech software) is much flatter and very very silent if compared to same sound recorded on the Windows built in wave sound recorder or on Cakewalk's Sonar.

PS - I already have the 48 kHz sound quality option checked in LWS.

I'd really appreciate any help in the matter - the output video size does not matter - I need the highest possible sound quality this hardware can provide. Pehaps there's other software supporting external mics and the quickcam 9000?

Thanks again!

best,

Rondel

Re: Pro 9000 LWS 2.1 - focus and sound compression

1) Please try reinstalling the Logitech Webcam Software "clean".

2) In order to perform this task, third-party software will be required.

Thanks.

Re: Pro 9000 LWS 2.1 - focus and sound compression

Thanks for a quick response KachiWachi :smileyhappy:

1) I just recently did a clean reinstall of the software related with a different issue - switching the autofocus function off and manually moving the slider, max, to the left seems somewhat to circumvent the problem.

2) there's quite a number of software on the link you provided - can you recommend anything specific? Obviously I would prefer freeware and possibly easy to use.

Thanks in advance.

best,

Rondel

Earlier in this thread, Rondel sez -

I have had no auto focus issues with the previus iteration of the software.

Which version of the Logitech Webcam Software (or QuickCam software) was previously installed?

Thanks.

Re: Pro 9000 LWS 2.1 - focus and sound compression

I beleive it was the last version of the QuickCam software (one that came with Logitech Vid) and not LWS, sorry I can't be more specific - I cleared my temp files so I can't check what version was downloaded by the auto update before LWS :smileysad:

When sitting normally around (0,7 m away from screen) its a litte out of focus - however if I lean in a little bit it goes way off focus and can't seem to catch its bearings even if I lean way back. However, since I seem to be getting quite a crisp picture with auto focus switched off I'm willing to let this go.

thanks,

Rondel
