Problem finding software for Logitech QuickCam Orbit PTZ. Help required. (Vista)

[ Edited ]

Hey guys, I am not absolutuley sure but i think i may have a unique and original problem for you guys to tackle. I would greatly appreciate it if you guys could help me with this one. Here goes.

I recently upgraded my OS to Windows Vista Ultimate (32 bit). Then my problems began when I attempted to install my Logitech QuickCam Orbit that i have used faithfully and bought about five to eight years ago. When i installed the ORBIT i began to act really funky, so i went to the LOGITECH website and did some troubleshooting. I found out that i would have to download new software from the site based on the type of ORBIT that i own. I then proceeded to download the new software for the Logitech Quickcam Orbit MP, (since that is the camera that i thought i owned). Turns out after i downloaded the new software, rebooted my PC and tried to run the software the pan and tilit and zoom functions on the application was greyed out and unavailable for my use. SO i started to freak out thinking that something was wrong with my camera.

So i did what any normal person would do, i uninstalled the software for the Orbit MP and proceeded to download the software for the Logitech Orbit AF (hey if it wasn't one i thought it would be the other.) Turns out that when i began to install this software it gave me some funky error to the tune of it being incompatible to my system.

I then began to think that i made an error in the downloading process of when i downloaded the software for the Logitech Orbit MP, therefore i downloaded, installed and ran that application again. Turns out i didn't make the mistake the first time around, the pan and tilt and zoom functionality was still greyed out and not working. (Honestly why own a Quickcam Orbit if you can't pan and tilt and zoom?) By some dumb luck however i noticed that this software had a diagnostic tool. So i ran this tool i found out that i actually owned a :Market Name : "Logitech Quickcam Orbit PTZ"

So i went back to the Logitech website. i did a webcam search for the Logitech Quickcam Orbit PTZ  that ended with no result. So i did a manual search through webcams by image and clicked the link that took me to old webcams no longer in circulation. I found a picture link with a camera simply called Logitech Quickcam Orbit. I thought that this must be the first model of orbit produced and this must be the software for my camera and that they just left of the PTZ part. So i downloaded this software and installed it and reboot, (of course after uninstalling the software for the ORBIT MP). Now i run the software for the original Quickcam Orbit only to  find out that this application does not even include the pan, tilt or zoom features in this version of the application. It just has the brightness, contrast, etc features.

Now i am at a dead end. I know now that this last software that i downloaded can't  be right for the camera that i have, but i would be happy to download the software for the Orbit MP if someone could tell me why the heck the pan, tilt and zoom functions were greyed out and unavailable.

I know this is a long post and i sound like a complete newbie (mainly coz i am). Can someone shed some light on this situation. It would be greatly appreciated, Thanx in advance.

What is the 8xxxxx (or 860-xxxxxx) series number from the camera's identification tag (FAQ #3427), or preferably... the USB\VID ID?

Thanks.

Re: Problem finding software for Logitech QuickCam Orbit PTZ. Help required. (Vista)

Thanx KachiWachi for responding to my call for help.

I located the black tag at the end of my USB cord and the information is listed as follows:

 M/N: V-UU22

P/N: 861116-0030

S/N PMA41400224

I then followed the instructions outlined in the tutorial from the link you provided to find the vid and pid id's. Since VISTA doesn't have the selection Device Instance Id in the drop down box of the camera's properties via the device manager. (that the tutorial suggest I locate) I am including the strings of numbers that I think closest resembles the ID's I assume you were asking for.
Both these numbers were found when looking in the Quickcam Orbit Properties via the device manager.

Hardware Id's:
USB\VID_046D&PID_08B5&REV_0003&MI_00
USB\VID_046D&PID_08B5&MI_00

Matching Device Id:
usb\vid_046d&pid_08b5&mi_00

I didn't know which of these strings you wanted so i included them both.

If you need any more info to assist me please don't hesitate to ask,

Thanx again.

My m/n is v-uay22 and I'm using vista 32. Where would I get the correct software and driver for my cam?
