QuickCam Video Freeze Up

Greetings all

I hope someone may be able to provide me with a fresh point of view on fixing my problem.

When I first purchased My QuickCam Messenger, it worked fine for 3 or 4 months. That was about 2 years ago.
Ever since then it will work fine for about 10 mins then, the video freezes, for no apparent reason. No cables or cords were being moved, actually no activity at all on the computer. The video freezes using Windows Live Messenger, Coffee Cam, Dorgem, and even it's own prgm Quick Capture. When the video freezes , I can not close the applications that are using the webcam, even using Task Manager to terminate the process, it will not terminate, I have to do a restart, and some times the restart does not restart, I have to do a cold (button) shutdown on the computer. Once the computer begins to shut down then I see a Popup window advising that
" LVComSXWnd " is not responding. I have had this problem with my computer , only when trying to use Logitech WebCam. This problem has been ongoing now for 2 years and I have not been able to rectify the problem.
It will also freeze up , as soon as I put a check mark on  " Low Light Boost " in Quick Capture, every time, as soon as I check mark this, the video freezes.
I have a need for a motion detection capability, for security purposes.

I have tried uninstalling, cleaning registry, and reinstalling the QuickCam Software numerous times.
I have tried updating camera drivers and video card drivers.
I have tried running QuickCam with no  AntiVirus  suite running.
I have tried Full Computer Virus and rootkit scan.
I have tried defragmenting the drives and disk cleanup.
None of these, had any change or effect on the described problem.

From reading the posts, I think my next move , will be to try running the webcam and software on another computer,  and see if it's stable.    ( maybe a problem with actual camera hardware )

Does any one else have any ideas on what I can try ?
I have numerous video players and video editors installed, any sense in un-installing some of these ?
There is obviously a conflict with  " LVComSXWnd ". Afterwards I go into the System event viewer, but I can not make heads or tails out of the info in there. There must be a more precise way to track down the problem, other than just to start un-installing everything, or god forbid doing a reformat.

System:

        Windows XP Home Edition 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600   ( 32 bit )
        Internet Explorer 7.0.5730.11
        Radeon 9800Pro

QuickCam Hardware:

     QuickCam Messenger
Model Number V-UM 14
Part Number 861092-0020
Serial Number PMA 34939925
                             5 Volts @ 100ma
Quick Cam Software:

      QuickCam 8.4.8

Any help or advice, suggestions are much appreciated.      --<< Scampy >>--  :smileyhappy:

Re: QuickCam Video Freeze Up

Does this issue occur when these devices are not connected to the PC?

Thanks.

Re: QuickCam Video Freeze Up

Well, I will try that. But do you mean to just disconnect the USB cables

or to also uninstall the programs for these devices ?

Re: QuickCam Video Freeze Up

For the moment, just disconnect the USB cables.

Thanks.

Re: QuickCam Video Freeze Up

[ Edited ]

I need help with this too! I have the exact same problem and model of camera. I will note that I had been using it with YAWCAM, which required me to have java running, and the only stable Java I found to run with it was Java 6 update 4 for stability without black flashes on the screen. Neither program is able to use the camera at the moment (and I have two cameras of the same kind that I can test with as well), it simply shows 1 second of video then freezes.

I also have a custom built computer, an Abit AB9Pro motherboard, Sound Blaster Audigy X-Fi sound card, HP f4100 series usb printer, usb mouse ps2 keyboard, 4 gigs of ddr2 memory, Dual Core cpu, and running Windows XP Home with service Pack 3.

(I also got the camera at least to function in Windows Vista / Windows 7 beta 7000 on my other computer, but no audio through the mic.)

i am running the 8.48 version of the software.

edit:

I updated to the 10.5 version of the software, no difference. I noted however, that this time the software went fine UNTIL I turned the light off and the low level light boost attempted to compensate, THEN it froze. The only difference I can think is I updated my Nvidia drivers recently, so it may have an incompatibility. I personally don't need the low level light boost presently, so for me it's a nice workaround fix.

Still,... not being able to reboot or shutdown normally when that program crashes is a MAJOR glitch!!
