Quickcam 9000 in use my another application

When ever I try to use my webcam in Skype or just trying to get it to show up in the logitech software it says it is in use by another application. I have checked and there is no other application using it. It was working fine before this and then all of a sudden it started getting this error message. I even tried to do a system restore to undo anything that might be the cause of it. Any fixes or do i have a useless webcam?

Re: Quickcam 9000 in use my another application

That is one hundred percent a software issue.  Something else is trying to use the camera, or, after the camera was being used, no change was made in whever windows stores this info (I THINK in the registry, but I could be wrong) that its not being used anymore.  Alternately, your antivirus could be blocking the camera feed.  Norton/Symantec, Mcaffee, and computer associates/CA are worst on this.

if its the first, try unplugging the camera, rebooting with it unplugged, and plugging it back in.  alternately, if your're familiar with the device manager, uninstall the camera from device manager with it plugged in (its under imaging devices, not cameras) and then reboot.  If your system tells you it HAS to reboot, then yup, something is grabbing the camera that shouldnt be.  Possibly a virus or other malware, probably not. reboot, and unplug the cam once windows has shut down, before you get to the windows loading screen.  let it boot fully ( a minute or so after you get your desktop) and plug it back in.  You should be back in business.  If not, uninstall, and reinstall in the clean boot mode.  (just look at any Kachi Wachi post, or his main list of stuff, for a description of how to do that)  That should fix the problem if its an antiviral issue.

Kachi, thats offical, but bunk imo.  It is a good thing to try if you GET a feed in quickcapture, but most of the time, when someone gets that error in skype et. al. they will also get a camera not found, reconnect error in quickcapture.

Technically speaking, the appearance of this message means that another application has a handle open to the device.

Thanks.

Re: Quickcam 9000 in use my another application

Thanks for the help, but none of it seems to work. I fully unistalled the software, it made me reboot, re-installed everything, still said the same thing. Is there a Logitech rep. I could speak to, this is really getting frustrating and at this point I'm thinking about returning it........
