Does this issue occur when you use the camera in the Logitech supplied QuickCam software application, or only in your third-party Instant Messenger program?
Thanks.

Ah, the great world of marketing and advertising.
So I guess I am yet another person who bought this product:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8
Logitech QuickCam Orbit AF 2.0 M Effective Pixels 1600 x 1200 30 fps USB WebCam - Retail
The simple fact that the Logitech Webcam Crapware limits all their cameras to 15fps is proof enough that these products do not have any kind of extra processing power to help encode video, and the burden is left up to the CPU of the host computer (despite the 100$+ price tag!), and are, quite frankly, pieces of trash that should be thrown out.
But suffice to say, even if you go through ALL those tweaks in the above post, and use 3rd party software (I'm using Debut Video Capture), you can still ONLY get somewhere around 30fps (I get around 27 average, what a joke) at 640 x 480 resolution. Is it reasonable to be shocked by this? I mean, look at the newegg title page -- 30fps at 1600x1200! Not so. The fact of the matter is it will only do 5fps (if that) at that resoluiton.
So I though, maybe it's my computer? I'll try it in a newer machine -- q6600 overclocked to 3.4ghz with 4gb of ddr1333 ram running Windows 7 x64 and using an Intel X-25M solid state drive for the OS volume...same thing. This product isn't worth 10$.
I suggest anyone reading this NOT buy this product (the Orbit AF) or any other Logitech webcam product if they plan on making any kind of decent quality videos with their computer. If all you're going to use it for is video conferencing, then yeah fine (but why pay 100$ for that -- there are better quality and cheaper cameras now that have hardware encoding, so scratch that -- don't even buy them at all).
If you already bought this product and the reseller you purchased it from has restocking fees, I suggest you complain to them about blatant false advertising -- because that's exactly what is going on here. That's all.

I did the same mistake but instead i buyed the webcamera for almost 130euros.( 173.91 USD) All i can say is that the 720p quality is absolutely horrible and at first i thought i could do 1600x1200 with 30fps (because of misleading informations posted on almost every Romanian online-shop) . Again...to be honest... 15fps on 1280-720p or 960-720 is awful even for youtube. (not to mention about recording with RightLight) . Also...the face tracking is just another bad joke ...on a product that is considered high-end... along with the ridiculous price. Too bad that this is the best webcamera you can buy in 2010

Products / Webcams + Video Calling / Logitech HD webcams. So much more than HD.
Thanks.

I see Logitech is STILL not putting the framerate details for their webcams in the specifications.
Why do you guys keep doing this to people?
What is the average framerate on the new "HD" webcams at full resolution???
I really hate how the term "HD" has been bastardized so much over the years -- there are all sorts of crappy products using the "HD" tag now it's come to be meaningless.
FYI, "HD" originally meant 720p or 1080p at SIXTY (yes that's 60) frames per second.
Funny, I bet these new logitech cams won't even get 20fps on average.
