Change IP address on USB homeplug/outdoor camera

Hi, this is my first post on here so I was extra careful to read as much as possible to make sure the question hasn't been answered, but have mercy on me if I missed something.

I have the Digital Video Security Master System, now discontinued. It's been sitting around waiting for a renovation and now it's time to install it. It is basically working fine, although I echo everyone's frustration with having to use the Command Centre.

To simply my network configuration, one of the things I absolutely want to change is the IP address of the camera. Right now, as I see it, it takes its address from the USB powerline adapter, which gives it an address in the 172.29.xxx.xxx range. My network is the bog standard 192.168.x.x range.

I cannot, however, find any obvious way of changing this. I can see there is a little app in the Tools directory which allows me to change the address of the camera, but obviously it only allows that within the IP address range being advertised by its DHCP server, in this case the USB plug.

Can anyone help me with this? I can then get on to the thornier issues of remote viewing (I see Blue Iris being touted and am keen to try it, but want to sort this out first).

Help greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Marc

Bump.

If this is a stupid question or the answer is "not possible, you are stuck with the 172..... range" can someone say so?

Hello NieldM,

Sorry for the delay in answering. We usually leave all posts at least 24 hours and I do not work weekends.

The USB network adapter will get its IP range from your computer and not your router so the 172 range is normal to see. It is like a sub network from your main network.

Re: Change IP address on USB homeplug/outdoor camera

Thanks. I am aware of what the 172 range is, my question is how do I change it? If I can't change it, how do I address the camera in direct mode? I do not want to use the wilife software as the computer to which the camera is attached is not attended.

Thanks

Hello Marc,

For direct mode you do not do anythig with the IPs. You need to open ports. Now I am not sure if it is still working after the servers went down a little while ago, but here is a FAQ about setting up direct mode. This  still uses our software. For the Wilife cameras some sort of software has to be used and running for them to record.

You need to either use CommandCenter or another viewing software called Blue Iris on your computer.

With CC you need to view thru the Logitech website but with Blue Iris you can view with just your ip address after you have the port open.  In the BI menus it tells you what port you need to open and use for remote viewing.
