Re: SetPoint 4.80 is Windows 7 WHQL certified and available for download

I'm very disappointed that Logitech hasn't seen fit to address any of the many issues with the 4.80 software. I STILL can't change any settings on my MX Revolution keyboard and since I had to replace the batteries it's now back to factory defaults. Come on guys, at least give us a response!

Re: SetPoint 4.80 is Windows 7 WHQL certified and available for download

Woody, I think there might be problem with the installation routine with 4.80 as it seems to be the case that a fair amount of folks are experiencing no "Mouse/Keyboard" tabs and from my personal experience, although not tested with Windows 7, Setpoint 4.72 seems to be the only resolution.  My HTPC was near fresh install (operating around 2 months), but it may be WHQL certified not sure why support would tell folks to install 4.72.  Anywho, in addition to mentioning Setpoint being certified, would recommend some statement about missing tabs as indicated in link below.  4.72 was my only workaround for missing tabs on Windows 7 64bit DiNovo Mini... 4.8 did not work.  Thanks for listening.

Re: SetPoint 4.80 is Windows 7 WHQL certified and available for download

As a user with 4 LX710 keyboard and mouse combos on workstations I can confirm that version 4.80 does not function properly with Windows 7 Ultimate and thes hardware.  All workstations suffer with a terrible case of "the jumping mouse cursor."   Remember, these are workstations and do not have touch pads or anything else to interfere with the mouse cursor or that you can accidently touch while typing.

On mouse set-up the "Smart Move" is NOT enabled and no matter what I try I cannot keep the cursor from randomly moving to different points on the screen.  This happens with all software but most frequently with FireFox while pages heavy in JavaScript are loading.

All of these workstations were previously working correctly with Windows XP Pro, SP3 and a clean install of W7 Ultimate was performed on each one.  They are Dell SC400, P4 2.8GHZ, 2GB RAM.  Yes, I know that they technically are "servers" but they have performed flawlessly with XP Pro from the day I bought them.

I now see that Logitech no longer supports the LX710 series but just 2 months ago they claimed that it was compatible with Windows 7.

If anyone has any suggestions, please leave a note.

Thanks,

Dave

We are aware the 'no tab' issue with SetPoint but the workaround we found is more effective on XP systems.  See link here.

For Vista and Win7,  the only suggestion we have is to uninstall and reinstall.

(Through our techs feedback,  for some reason, most times,  the tab will show after second try.)

In general, this issue has something to do with driver installation that may have been blocked, like antivirue or user rights related.

Also Vista and Win 7 registry keys are protected and it is impossible to force system to 're-enumerate' by removing the VID keys.

Our developers are working on the next version to improve SetPoint and log reporting tool to gather information easier.

Here is the feedbacks from our technicians: (best practice)

1. Login user with admin rights

2. Install SetPoint before installing antivirus if possible

3. Connect device directly to computer's USB port and one at a time for troubleshooting

4. USB devices are Plug-n-Play,  during enumeration, the System will 'select' the best match device driver for it, try a different port after setpoint is installed.

Here are logs location and it may have some clues:

     C:\Program Files\Logitech\SetPoint\SetPoint_00x.log
     C:\Program Files\Logitech\SetPoint\SetPoint_Summary_00x.log
     C:\Program Files\Common Files\Logishrd\CDDRV2\cddrvinstall.log
     C:\Program Files\Common Files\Logishrd\KHAL2\khalinstall.log

     C:\WINDOWS\LDPINST.LOG
     C:\WINDOWS\setupapi.log
     C:\WINDOWS\Wdf01005Inst.log

     msinfo32 - [Windows Error] section

Re: SetPoint 4.80 is Windows 7 WHQL certified and available for download

HitEscape,

LX710 is supported in SetPoint.

Although I am not sure what the issue is but through your observation it happens at random times and frequent when JavaScript loading,  the system maybe busy to answer USB transactions.  It is just a guess.

You can compare after exiting SetPoint, if it is point to the driver then it is not the hardware or RF communication.

-Try simplify the running process and  to verify if it is SetPoint that caused the issue

-TaskManager maybe be helpful to see if SetPoint or others are taxing the process / RAM

Re: SetPoint 4.80 is Windows 7 WHQL certified and available for download

The CPU is hyper-threading so almost always 50% of the CPU is available.  Your focus on the USB being busy is interesting but I have no idea how to test it.  Also you mention "You can compare after exiting SetPoint, if it is point to the driver then it is not the hardware or RF communication." I don't understand that.  As far as RF, my receiver is about 18"from the keyboard and mouse, the same location as 2 years ago and same for the other computers.

I will try moving the connectin to a USB card instead of the built in USB ports.

Also, I updated a Dell Latitude D810 this afternoon to W7 Ultimate.  It too has the jumping cursor.  Are there any known problems with the Dell (Alps) touchpad?

Thanks,

Dave

[ Edited ]

I believe your LX710 is fine since it was working fine in XP.

There is no known issues with Dell Latitude as far as I konw.  And since you are updating to new W7 Ultimate, I would suggest using it as baseline of how it behaves in this new OS before adding new softwares.

I would also suggest to check java.com and see if there is newer Java runtime software for it.

Thnx for reply and your time :smileyhappy:

Re: SetPoint 4.80 is Windows 7 WHQL certified and available for download

It might be certified but it has caused nothing but trouble on my system. I have a Cordless Optical Trackman with the receiver plugged directly into the PC plus a spare (as for some reason this model is not available in Australia so I get them sent over from the US) and a Trackball.  The Cordless Opt Trackman is nothing like the smooth mouse it was under 32 bit XP, being jerky, losing its wireless connection and generally staring to make me look elsewhere for another brand of trackball. Indeed, the TRackball is a much nicer mouse now, except that it doesn't have a scroll wheel.

For reasons that I don't understand, sometimes it runs better if I have the Trackman also plugged into my USB hub and then it loses the connection totally if I pull it out. Sometimes I have to double click when I should only single click and - weirdly - if I turn it upside down to try to re-connect and press the button, it totally loses the plot, although ti shows some omvement when 'on its head'. I can select either mouse inside the software, but if I physically unplug the Trackball, the Cordless one retires from the game as well.

Very irritating and frustrating!
