Re: Webcam C500 & Windows 7

Hi,

I m using Win 7 Pro clean install to my Dell laptop M4400 connect to docking station with C500 webcam connect to 1 of 4 USB port in docking station. Image view from a 17" LCD connect to docking station with laptop screen close all the time (use like a desktop at home and laptop on the go).

Initially it works fine. Suddenly it hang my laptop everytime I make video call with ringing sound keep continue even the other side already click on answer call. I need a reboot to stop the ringing sound.

After reboot, in Skype option, I can select the webcam and see myself clearly but cannot make call. Using my integrated webcam, I can make Skype video call without problem. So, I don't think it is software issue. Initial though maybe my docking station have problem.

Yesterday I hook up a new Microsoft NX-6000 webcam to the same docking station USB port where I connect my Logitech C500 earlier. It works fine with same Skype software, no adjustment or any software changes done.

Then I connect the C500 to my desktop. I connect to an empty USB port on my MB, try out again and it hang my mouse and keybd when make video call in Skype. The USB port are 2 ports in a row, another port used for my 4 to 1 USB hardware that then connect to mouse, keybd and USB bluetooth.

I saw another USB row is empty, so I try connect the C500 to the empty row port and it works fine.

Now I am confuse if the webcam draw too much power from the USB port until same row port cannot works properly or the webcam really have problem. But then, how to explain when I use it on the empty row, it works fine.

Then at night, the webcam try to perform software upgrade from web. I abort it as afraid it will cause the same problem like in my Dell laptop, on Skype video call, computer hang. As now it is working fine, I will not update online until I see a firm solution available.

Note: I recall the webcam did perform software upgrade successfully online in my Dell M4400 laptop but can't recall the exact date.

Re: Webcam C500 & Windows 7

Hello,

for my problem (hang of my computer if LWS is installed) i found a solution.

I let the LWS installation run through till it hangs.

Then i have to restart PC from scratch (power off and on). After that i uninstalled the drivers for the Webcam. Now i was able to uninstall and reinstall the LWS software without problems. After that i installed the drivers for the webcam again. Since then it works - i tested it only with yahoo messenger.

Greetings

Wolfgang

I have all of your problems guys.

Is there a change? Is Logitec planning to release a firmware or software update?

I solved the problem the following way. But it's just a workaround.

System.Windows 7 32bit

1.Uninstall software installed by Windows 7 automatically.

2.Uninstall all software installed by Logitech or other for the Webcam c500 in this case.

3. Restart your PC.

4. Start installing LWS software for your Operating system.Install only the driver nothing else.  In my case LWS11.exe for Windows 7 32 bit..

you have it also for 64bit.

5. After installing the software start now installing the software on the cd-rom you got in the webcam-box.

6. Install driver and utility to manage the webcam.

7. Open Webcam Utility and the 4th option choose the program that the webcam is going to use. In my case it was Windows live messenger latest version available at the moment.

8. Start Messenger.

9. Run utility in Messenger to set up you audio and webcam settings.

10. Once done this all..

11. Take the usb cable of you webcam out of the pc. Wait 5 seconds, reconnect.

12. Start a video Chat sessions.

Repeat every time you start a video chat session

11. Take the usb cable of you webcam out of the pc. Wait 5 seconds, reconnect.

12. Start a video Chat sessions.

This works at the moment.

What i do get is that every 5-10 minutes the person i am having a video/voice session with tells me that the voice communication gets verry bad, to much noise as if you have no signal with a mobile.

Just stop the voice session and start it up after 5 seconds, and it will work fine.

I like the webcam c500 and hope that Logitech comes up with a working fine driver/firmware update for this product line.

I read that a lot of this product line have driver problems with Windows 7 - 32/64 bit versions.

Next time i buy something from Logitech i will look to this kind of webpages if there are some problems. Because i never expected that this webcam would have a problem. Specially when you buy it from a good brand like Logitech you would expect no problems or it to be solved verry soon.

Re: Webcam C500 & Windows 7

Hi, I'm having a lot of these problems. I have a brand new laptop with windows 7 home edition. I installed Adobe Audition, iTunes, and Word. I have the C500 and have the most recent version downloaded from logitech website. It worked great for a few weeks, then the software started hanging. I can't close the software at all -- just says "not responding". Other programs with audio do not open when in this state, e.g., iTunes. I can open Audition but it says that my recording ability is disabled. SInce this problem started, all my audio is messed up that relates to the recording function. This is bad news for me because I podcast live daily. I am using the webcam with ustream.tv. I have tried system restore, removing and re-installing logitech software, etc. I am not sure what else to do with this and would greatly appreciate some help. Not sure which of the solutions mentioned in this thread actually works.Would appreciate a fix to this. Thanks.

Re: Webcam C500 & Windows 7

I bought the C500 about 6 weeks ago and have had numerous problems similar to those mentioned before.  I originally tried to install the software and the installation hung.  I tried the Windows 7 64-bit drivers and the same thing happened.  If I try to run the camera at tinychat.com it freezes my computer and disables shockwave.  I then use the Windows Restore tool to bring my computer back to the time prior to the installation. If I don't try and install the drivers and just let Windows auto detect the camera it works in some applications.

I have a Windows 7 64-bit machine and am disappointed with this process.  I'm not sure if it is a Windows, Logitech, or even Adobe (because of shockwave errors) problem, but I am wishing I had bought a Mac and just used the embedded web cam.

I'll try out some of the suggestions and post again on what happens.  Keep posting any fixes you have found or if Logitech is listening, please create a fix and post.  Your Windows 7 64-bit drivers do not currently work for me.

Re: Webcam C500 & Windows 7

lws200.exe **bleep** even more.

How hard is it to make a product and write some good nice working software for it.

If you can't make the drivers work don't make the product.

How many people are there who are using windows live messenger with windows 7 and are having these kind of problems.

JUST WRITE A WORKING DRIVER FOR GOD'S SAKE.

Re: Webcam C500 & Windows 7

LWS 2 is fine if you don't use the Microsoft Live Messenger.

It works totally fine with Skype. Only 2 programs i use.

After deleting all the old drivers/software i installed the last time to make it work, i installed the LWS 2.

This went fine. Restarted the pc en then Live Messenger.

I still have to disconnect and reconnect the c500 cam usb cable to have the Live Messenger see that i have a webcam.

Because it does not see my cam and does not give the option to start a conversation by webcam.

After starten the conversation. i can see that my c500 haves picture and works fine. But the other side does not see a damm thing.

I reinstalled the software after deleting and restarting the pc many times. It dit not help. I also added the Windows Live Messenger exe file to the program and still it dit not work.

Voice is fine by the way. Only thing what seems to be working fine with Windows Live Messenger.

I also tested with Skype, no problem, Works totally fine with it.

It's totally crap, have you guys tested the driver with Win7 32/64 bit pc's and Windows Live Messenger.

I have not seen or read 1 person who got it working.

It's a super webcam, but you guys need to make this driver work or just put a label on it with words, It will not work with Windows Live Messenger.

Hope you guys can come up with a driver update soon.

Hi Killic,

Thank you very much for your feedback.

Your C500 works fine with Windows Live Messenger and Windows 7 32/64 bit.

A few things you may want to check:

  • Make sure the camera is connected directly to a USB port not a USB hub
  • Download and install the latest Windows Live Messenger (Latest update I found was version 2009 build 14.0.8117.416).
  • Make sure you and the other party you talk to using Windows Live Messenger follows the steps listed on FAQ 12673(note: FAQ 12673 refers to LWS V1.1 but it should not make any difference).

Thanks,

Re: Webcam C500 & Windows 7

Hey,

Well windows 7 64 clean install also. I installed everything fine and used cam without any problems for some time. Now I unplugged it once and plugged it back again. Since it won't work. Actually when I try to plug it in USB port it won't recognize it and it freezes all my other usb devices which are actually only my logitech mouse and keyboard. So I'm not even able to plug it in my USB port. I tried about everything on here but can't make it work.

Any hint?

Thanks for your time and help
