A few problems...

After a lot of nonsense trying to get it up and running, I've got it working but it takes forever to scroll through the artists to get to the one you want to listen to, and the scroll wheel doesn't seem to care how fast you turn it, it goes as slow as ever. If I want to listen to something in the middle of the B.. artists it takes a good 20 seconds to get there. I don't even want to think how long it'd take if I wanted to listen to something in the middle of VA..

Memory usage is terrible too. Between Streampoint.exe and iTunes.exe they gobble up anthing up to 1GB. Right now iTunes is using 380MB and Streampoint is using 230MB. Are the other apps that work with Streampoint less memory hungry? Am I better just pointing it at a folder of mp3s, as opposed to integrating it with a media player?

There was just a seven second delay after a track before playing the next track. Something that doesn't happen when streaming PC sounds from itunes. I didn't just spend all that money on a replacement for a long audio cable, I want to be able to use the remote to browse and play stuff. Right now it ruins an album to have a massive gap between tracks. Why can't it do gapless playback? Or if it can, how do I make it do it? I don't mind a split-second gap, but seven seconds is atrocious.

There's at least a five second gap between selecting a track and it actually starting as well.

Is it really as useless as it seems or are there tweaks for it?

Re: A few problems...

Tried just using it in file mode (with only one album added, admittedly) and skipping between tracks etc is much faster, so I might just bypass itunes and just point streampoint at a folder. I have no reason or desire to use iTunes other than for Streampoint.

How do you use streaming radio with the File Folders method of playing music? Will I have to add the stations I want to play to a playlist and play it? I don't really listen to streaming radio, but I'd want to know how to just in case. Obviously you can't bookmark stations like in iTunes if you're using File Folders.

Re: A few problems...

Ok, the 5 second between-tracks gap is gone. There's still a gap but it's not too bad. Less than half a second. Not seamless but it seems about as good as It'll do.

Using it in File Folder mode seems like the best way to go. I ditched itunes completely, it seems like it was causing the lagging.

Browsing and skipping tracks responds quicker now, but it's still a chore to find a specific artist if it's not near the start or the end of one of the letter lists. If it's Bad Manners or Bruce Springsteen I want to hear it's fine, but Biffy Clyro are stuck right in the middle. Is there no way to scroll faster?

Memory usage is still awful. 540MB right now, while browsing artists on the remote.  I'm going to have to add another gig of ram to this box, just to play music. Winamp doesn't have a problem with a library this big. More than half the box's ram in use, just to play music...

Gah, another problem... :smileysad:

If I have a song tagged as beign by Talking Heads and one tagged as Talking heads, with a lower case H, in the bands list it lists both Talking Heads and Talking heads. That's fair enough, although I'd rather it combined the two. The silly thing is that the albums from both artists are then listed if you drop down a level to album view.

edit: I should probably add stuff to my existing posts instead of posting more. :smileyvery-happy: Didn't see the options button.

Latest problem: the volume steps are too large. It goes from silent to quiet to deafening with way too few button presses.
