Remote hanging at OK - with 1.1 software

Hi,

Ran a full update of a friend's computer some time ago - downloading everything new from the PC manufacturer and from Microsoft Update. Since then, his wireless DJ remote hangs at the OK screen. I've found threads here describing similar problems, but it's supposed to be fixed in the latest release.... news flash: It's not.

Or could there be some other problem?

I've tried reinstalling the kit completely, which didn't help. Everything checks out fine, except that the remote never gets past the OK after having established communication with the PC and (possibly unrelated but nevertheless an anomaly) that the battery level indicator in the StreamPoint software seems dead - only device ID and firmware version is shown - the battery meter is empty (it IS fully charged, though). I've noticed that the battery connections are a bit flaky - I can get the remote to reboot just by pressing somewhat hard on the battery cover. This is no surprise giving the friction-free connectors - several cellphones have the same problem. However, I've verified that the battery was in fact fully charged by leaving the remote on for several hours after testing - and there are no problems. Just a computer with an OK next to it... :-)

My friend more or less uses the thing for listening to ONE Internet radio station, and doesn't mind much having to go to the computer and use MP to stream music to the WDJ system (which works fine), but he got quite fond of the remote while it worked, so any help would be appreciated.

Any ideas, anyone?

Later,
Josef

No doubt some of these initial suggestions will not be relevant, but it doesn't do any harm to revisit them, even if the problem is likely to be specific to the remote itself and a loose battery connector:

When you reinstalled Streampoint 'completely', did you get rid of all Streampoint references by clearing the PC's registry? If not, residual conflicts could be creating communication errors. Try cleaning the registry of any Logitech Streampoint references, rebooting a couple of times, and then reinstalling Streampoint.

Have you 'reconnected' the transmitter to the receiver by pressing the button at the back of the receiver for at least 15 seconds until it flashes red/blue? This deals with a multitude of sins.

Have you tried unplugging the USB connection and trying a different USB port...could be related to a problem with USB ports.

If you have tried all this without success, then it sounds like a hardware problem related to the remote. If the kit is still within its guarantee, I suggest returning it for replacement.

Have you tried calling Logitech Customer Support and talking through the issues with them?

Re: Remote hanging at OK - with 1.1 software

Hi,

Did all except the registry cleanup part. As changing USB port normally gives stuff an entirely new HWID and hence forces a recreation of most settings, I did that and thought it would suffice... but maybe not. Also... the thing IS detected from Streampoint (which displays ID and firmware revision for it when it is on) and the streaming works, so my thinking is that the remote itself has gotten confused by something, and there doesn't seem to be a way to clear it (leaving it without battery for a couple of minutes didn't help).

There's one more thing I found in the forums, though, and that isn't in your post: 15-second Home+Mute on the remote and reassociating it with the system (similar to the button on the back of the receiver, but for the remote). Tried that too - after a breath or so the system found the remote, the remote said OK (after having said ? since the reset), and then, sadly, nothing more.

In any case, I'll call Logitech tomorrow and see what they say. Just thought I'd see if someone had already seen it and solved it... as THERE ARE  NO STICKY THREADS in this forum, it's easy to overlook others' findings.
