Guess What problem I have with the receiver - HELP!

[ Edited ]
Hello all, and please let me say first off 'yes I have used the search function'

Heres my issue. The Logitech Wireless DJ Remote software will not detect that the Music Receiver is connected with the transmitter. Hence I cannot add rooms, hence this product is now rendered useless.

The Streampoint software on the disk is version 1.5 was installed around 5 months ago on a Windows XP SP2 Media Center Edition machine. And It worked perfectly. Well, with the exception of the range being an issue (That was quickly fixed with a USB extention cable)

So Due to a system problem I had to uninstall a few things, including streampoint.

I downloaded the latest update to the software and installed it.

Install happens fine, then we reach the setup wizard.
It detects the transmitter OK
It detects the remote control OK
It does not detect the receiver unit despite
- Both the receiver unit and transmitter unit have blue lights showing indicating the 'handshake' is sucessfull
- Being placed within 3 CM of each other on the USB extention cable and getting the same result
- The same above but minus the USB Extention cable
- Clicking the 'Help' button and pressing the button on the back of the receiver unit for the unit to go into the handshake mode and start alternating between red and blue lights
- Doing the same thing but also unplugging and re-inserting the USB cable for the transmitter unit before during and after the blue and red lights stop flashing, both with and without the USB Extention cable, and with and without the unit right next to the transmitter
- Despite ensuring that all components are unplugged before and during the setup process

As you can tell, I've been pretty thorough with this. I've also tried
- reinstalling the software as many as 120 times (and trying different things in between)
- redownloading the software several times
- installing from the software that was on the disk
- removing the driver in device manager and reinstalling that way
- removing all keys in the registry for logitech devices and streampoint devices
- deleting the logitech folders inside the Application Data/Local Settings folders on ALL user profiles
- installing in Safe Mode
- cold boots
- restarting between every process
- thousands of combinations of the above
- disabling any form of virus scanner on the computer
- trying system restore back and forth to no avail

I've tried everything above in so many combinations and i'm at my witts end with this

From what i've read the streampoint 1.1 software seems to work, but It's not availble for download anywhere

From what i've heard, calling logitech does not help

I have doubts that this is a hardware problem simply because the software does not detect it, it was working fine before the reinstall of the software, its also clearly handshaking blue lights, i've tried changing it to a different usb port but again, nothing.

So please, I am crying out here, I need HELP badly with this one. If anyone from Logitech is reading or listening I would be greatful for your comments and views because from what I've heard so far, it's not an isolated problem, within XP or Vista, especially as this product is still available.

Please help people, and thanks in advance

Re: Guess What problem I have with the receiver - HELP!

[ Edited ]
ok small update

no major progress but i've uninstalled just about every piece of software on the system and reinstalled the wireless dj software a further 12 times

nothing.

The device manager detects 'USB Audio Device' but when uninstalling and reinstalling this it shows up as "Logitech Wireless Music Transmitter" for a brief second leading me to believe this is a firmware or software problem.

Either the Music Transmitter is linking, but is failing to send the signal to the USB port on the computer that it's connected

Or the driver that supports the software is badly made and is incapable of applying the right signal or simply doesent interface correctly with the music transmitter

Or the wireless DJ software is poorly made and cannot actually link itself to the reciever driver

Now as this was working before, I've got a distinct feeling this is actually more closley related to the first two.

The firmware is unlikley to be at fault because it worked before, however what I think it actually might be is the USB driver.

USB Audio device, indicates that it's a generic USB audio driver provided for things like headphones, not however designed to pick up signals saying "Im here" like the Music Transmitter should have.

Now aside from this, I can't seem to find a specific driver. In fact when you go into the properties, it actually says the driver is provided by microsoft, not logitech.

So I have two conclusions. Either Logitech got lazy and the driver itself is at fault due to the way it's designed. Or the firmware in the device isn't quite sending the right signal for the system to automatically trigger and pick up the right driver.

Anyone have a firmware update at all or a dedicated driver thats in beta?

Re: Guess What problem I have with the receiver - HELP!

ok looking through here i'm more further inclined to think it's the driver

looking at the lHidwake file in the system, it seems to have all the details for a logitech mouse

Yes I did say a Logitech MOUSE rather than the wireless transmitter

So thinking back to some previous posts where they say the 1.1 version works, im inclined to think the 1.1 version actually has the right driver in it rather than some mouse driver.

So does anyone have the 1.1 version for me to download and try out? .....please?

If im right the 1.1 will have the actual music transmitter driver in it rather than the mouse driver, and we can solve the issue.

Incidentally if anyone does have it and wants the driver hosted somwhere more permanent, I can shove it on my website server which isnt going away any time soon,

Of course if that is the issue, i'll work on a self extracting fix for people to download, perhaps logitech might want to talk to me on this one?

Re: Guess What problem I have with the receiver - HELP!

Ok, It works

I got in touch with logitech about this who sent me the link to the 1.1 version of streampoint. Now before those of you who've encountered the problem dissapear off having just read that line, please actually read on.

The 1.1 software did not work. Yes I'll say that again, the 1.1 software did NOT work.

I decided to just remove the direct file link from the URL the tech gave me, and found all the streampoints. Version 1.1, 1.5 and the beta version.

The 1.1 software version seems to still have the bu g. It freezes and crashes during setup and simply refuses to work.

The 1.5 version from the FTP link, including the french version, have the same bug. They don't detect the rooms.

However what did work, was the beta version. In fact it worked perfectly. So perfectly in fact that there was no fuss at all from the unit.

Now looking into the drivers, the streampoint software still has the lHdwake file, and it still points to a logitech mouse driver and looking at the device manager, it still shows the same USB Audio Device, no different driver versions here either

So after all that, it's streampoint that's at fault!. In the beta version of streampoint, the Add New Button lights up. It even works after a restart.

However with it being a beta, it means there are a few issues.

For a start internet radio stations are erm.... twitchy. Sometimes they work, sometimes they work for 18 seconds, sometimes they dont work at all.

It does sometimes have a little hissy fit if it crashes, and it can be a little slow to load certain songs.

Other than that the beta is working perfeclty. My feeling is that somewhere between the beta and the final, the software got a minor tweak, and it couldn't see the receiver handshaking.

So. After all that, we've established the Beta is what we need. Perhaps it overwrote some driver somewhere.

Before I post up the link to the beta version download, I'm emaling logitech now, and letting them know, plus at the end of the day, I don't think they'd like me very much if I shoved up the link for all to see. Nevertheless, finally I am pleased.

Re: Guess What problem I have with the receiver - HELP!

Any chance of getting a copy of the Beta? I spent a couple hours w/ Logitech support today and am very, very frustrated...Everything lights up blue but the receiver is no longer detected (although it worked when I first installed everything). I had been planning to use this for my wedding reception this weekend...prob'ly better, at this point, to buy something with better quality / support...but if I could make it work ASAP with another version of sharepoint I'd try and stick it out.

Re: Guess What problem I have with the receiver - HELP!

By the way...in case anyone has the same problem I did...it appears my receiver was too close to my wireless router to function correctly. When I unplugged the router and reinstalled everything, bada bing! Back to working again...let this be a lesson to you, my friends...

The range issue is not what causing my problem. I have tried getting my receiver working side by side with the transceiver and with the receiver far away.

Since this is the issue on two different XP Pro SP2 computers I'm certain that it is bad written software (drivers) and I'm really disappointed with Logitech nad how they are handling this.

I thought Logitech was a serious company but after spending a hours on the phone with people that know nothing about computers I still havent get the pice of junk working.

My transiver and remote are recognized by StreamPoint but it's absolutly impossible to get the reciver to get recognized.
I get the blue light on booth devices...

I have the same problem. The lights are all blue, but the software won't detect it. What a piece of garbage!
