This problem seems to be a roll of the dice, but there are times when my alarm goes off, as scheduled, but instead of fading in with the sound effect that I set it for, it comes on with some loud music that bolts me out of bed. Other days works like it is supposed to. Anybody have similar issues and resolutions? Thanks.

Nearly the same issue with me. That's what I sent to Logitech email support last night, without being answered by now:
I use to getting a wake-up in the morning with my favourite radio station. After I initially connected my Boom to mysqueezebox.com, the wake-up gets smoothly started, the volume is slowly ramping up to the final volume within a couple of seconds. Since some weeks now, the wake-up starts at its final volume, without ramping up. Firmware of my Boom is still rev. 50, which came with the Boom from the factory. Maybe SW on mysqueezebox had been changed? Please, advise how I can get back to the initial behaviour of the wake-up.

I Still have the exact same problem, has this not been addressed yet?
I like the alarm to be my fav Last.fm station, It starts to play this for about 10 seconds, then blasts out some random drum beat sounds at a very high volume for a few seconds, then stops playing any sound at all!
Then I can switch it on again and it will play the station normaly, somtimes it will switch off again.

I've had this problem for a couple of months now and it pretty much renders the Squeezebox useless to me. I bought it because of the flexible alarm system and now it doesn't work.
Did they email you the update file?

Please let all of us know how to get newer firmware, even if it is Beta version. A lot of us have non-functional radios and really need some help.
Thanks,
Larry
