Hi,

I'm a happy user of logitech boom and enjoy all media sources: internet radio, napster and my own library from a NAS.

What I am missing is a good and quick user web interface that I can use from my laptop via WLAN to select my music. I played around with logitech squeeze center and squeeze network, however they are quite slow and not so user friendly.

e.g., when going through my music library, I'd like to navigate quickly throught the ID3 tags (genre or artist) similar to navigation with iPod.

Question: is there any other web tool that can be used for this?

In your browser enter:

http://192.168.1.15:9000/

replace 192.168.1.15 with the IP address of your server (pc or NAS).

You can also install squeezeplay on your computer and use this to control your player, browse library, etc.

I don't know which NAS you are using, but I can say I gave up trying to use my readynas duo as a server. It played files just fine, but was painfully slow with web browser interface if I needed to browse my library (60,000+ tracks). It is just not powerful enough.

Port 9000 I know and used earlier, but do not find it quick and user friendly. I'll try the squeezeplay. Thanks for the hint.

Concerning NAS ... I also use ReadyNAS but not Duo, I have ReadyNAS NV+. Lets see and hope it is a bit qicker.

Follow up question: isn't there any free- or shareware available? I heard for mobile devices like iPhone there are apps available for this kind of requests.

I just installed the SqueezePlay and it really looks great! this is exaclty what I was looking for!

Actually it seems quite quick as well

Only one question from me as NewBe: when I navigate using my laptop, I can browse my library from my NAS but music is now played on my laptop speakers and not on my boom. I did not find a possibility in the settings to chose the player.

Is there such an option to continue using boom with its speakers?

Yes, within squeezeplay you need to select the BOOM as the player. There is a menu option for "select player". It may be buried in your settings somewhere. Go to settings>home menu and look for the select player option and move it to your main menu. But bottom line, is yes, you can control from squeezeplay and hear results via boom. Squeezeplay can also act as a player itself (which is how yours is working now). It does double duty.

NV readynas is just as slow on 9000 as duo. So that won't be much help. And yes, I use the IPENG app for my iphone for controlling everything. It is the best $10 you could spend if you have a Squeezebox. Works very nicely!!!

The issue you are seeing when using the WebUI is that the NAS is not powerful enough. I had a ReadyNAS NV+ a long time ago and ditched it for a much more powerful NAS which also couldn't cut it, to be replaced by a dedicated Music Server running SBS. An NAS was not designed to run programs and serve as a Web Browser especially when it is nearly maxed out running SBS. A dedicated Server does not have to be expensive and most times is half of what an NAS cost while being 4 times more powerful as well as being designed to run programs like SBS.

GaryMC is correct that iPeng for the iPhone/iTouch/iPad makes a great interface. But, iPeng still needs to interface with SBS on the NAS so again the NAS is going to slow iPeng down. iPeng does some caching which helps it move faster then the WebUI running on the NAS, but again it all comes back to the NAS which is causing the issues you are trying to solve.

Can an NAS be used with a Music Library and SBS? It can, but one must except the limitations one runs into using an NAS and is better off using a small all MP3 library. Having owned a ReadyNAS NV+ and a Thecus N5200Pro, my acronym for NAS is Not A Server as in not an SBS Music Server. In my opinion, one is much better off using an Atom Motherboard, 2GB RAM, 30 Watt case, Vortexbox OS, and a large SATA Hard Drive. Backups done to a USB Drive that is disconnected and stored away after each backup.

I quickly found the setting to select my boom player and enjoyed a fully new experience yesterday night using SqueezePlay.

Performance is good and especially the search function is much easier using laptop keyboard instead of the boom wheel.
