SqueezeCenter and Musica Library on HP Media Smart Server?

I'm really hoping someone can help.  I just purchased the Squeezebox Duet and the HP MediaSmart Server EX485.  My plan was to store all my music on the server, and play them on my whole-house audio system through the Squeezebox.  I didn't realize, until just getting off the phone with Logitech tech support, that, since I installed and am running SqueezeCenter on my home PC (connected to the HP server), my PC will always have to be on if I want to access the music on my server.  This is not what I wanted at all.

I'd like to use the Squeezebox Controller and Reciever to access the music library on my server with or WITHOUT my PC being on.  Can I do this?

Based on the conversations I'm reading in this forum, it seems like I'd have to somehow install SqueezeCenter on the server and run it from there.  I'm only somewhat technically proficient, but I have absolutely no idea how to do that or how I would configure, access and maintain it if I could install SC on the server.

Can someone help or at least point me in the right direction?  I've been dreaming about getting this Squeezebox for almost a year, I'd hate to send it back, but if I can't do what I want with it, it's not of that much use to me.

Thanks in advance!

Re: SqueezeCenter and Musica Library on HP Media Smart Server?

It does appear to be possible to run SqueezeCenter on a WHS (HP MediaSmart Server is one type of Windows Home Server).  My Squeezebox is due to arrive on Monday and I will be following the suggestion at this wiki http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/WindowsHomeServer .

I too don't understand why Logitech makes you run their software when my Roku Radio is able to connect to any networked computer.

Thanks Larry.

I've seen that page, been looking over it the past few days.  I'm going to try it using those directions.  Perhaps we can keep each other posted to see how it goes.

I don't know if you found your answer yet but i'll give you a short answer just in case you haven't.  I have the EX485 and have been streaming my music library to Squeezebox radio.   Very easy to do.  Go to Remote Desktop on your PC and connect to your server.  From there you can use the server's internet browser to download Squeezecenter and then install it on your EX485.  After installation, make sure Squeezecenter is running before you exit the Remote Desktop connection.   Hope that helps.
