S315 docking problems

The S315 will not dock with an iPhone which has an Apple rubber "bumper" fitted to protect it. The bumper is intentionally a tight fit over the phone and will stretch with continual removal and replacement.

The problem is that the phone sits too high for the docking connector to reach far enough into the phone. Other docks (for example, the Arcam dr Dock) have the connector sitting higher so that the phone will dock properly.

Not a great design... I think that if the white Apple cable can be connected (which is can in my case), the dock should work as well.

Re: S315 docking problems

I expect this is not a big issue for most but I have solved the problem by making a small modification to the product (and of course voiding my warranty in the process).

It's possible to modify the plastic plate carrying the docking connector so that the docking connector sits higher and makes a good connection with the iPhone/bumper combination. You need to be reasonably capable but to do it, you dismantle the product to get at the small circuit board supporting the connector, grind away the side lugs and the plastic supports which position it, then enlarge the slot the connector fits through to allow the board to be pushed up higher. Glue in position using an epoxy and there you are. Works fine both with my iPhone/bumper and an iPod.

Of course, only do this is if you are confident doing this type of thing. Took me about 30 minutes.

Good morning I recently purchased an iPod dock the S315 and had just plugged in the unit to a 110 outlet the light indicator on the front of the unit blinked once and then would charge or turn on I have read the instruction manual and did not find a solution to this problem is there any way I can send this back for repair or replacement. Waiting patiently, Kevin
