I'm a computer engineering student and I'm trying to use Anoto sdk to create a stand alone application for e-learning university test; my univeristy is Anoto partner, we have SDK and FDK.
My logitech Io2 USB pen doesn't work with PC-demo-sample PAD file, it vibrates with red light on when writing on that paper. I tried with other 4 similar pen and and I have the same problem.
Using a Maxell digital pen, instead, I haven't that problem.
I found that particular PAD file inside C:\...\Anoto\PADs folder in my computer, so I can't understand why it doesn't work!
I have to handle PGC files from pen to develop my own application, but I can't store data on it because of this problem.
Any suggestion?
Thank you all for support
Bye Sergio

Thanks for your message. But let's talk here, in case it helps anyone else get interested enough to reply to you.
Basically, I don't know why your pen doesn't work or how to fix it - sorry. But since you say a Maxell pen works, then that implies the Anoto pattern on the paper you are using is OK.
Most of the student projects I have seen rely on using the pen in streaming mode. I believe this mode is only available in the commercial version of the Logitech pen. I think the commercial pens are grey. My Consumer version pen is black. I think you can tell from the part number printed on the barrel. My consumer pen is part number 866203. If you have a consumer pen, then I suggest you try borrowing a commercial pen.
I guess you are printing your own Anoto paper, using the SDK? If so, then another possibility is that the pattern is not quite good enough. Maybe it just works with the Maxell pen, but not quite with the Logitech pens. I have found it difficult to print my own paper. You need a good quality, clean, laser printer. You could try printing more paper on a better printer.
Kind regards,
Nigel

I also have a Black 38.16 firmware "Consumer" pen, but I already tried with a Grey "Commercial" pen and nothing changed. Same problem on the same "PC Data Demo" and "TEST PAPERSDK" original paper by Anoto.
It seems logitech pen cannot recognize that page pattern. Pidgets works normally but not writing and user areas. Very strange situation... maxell pen works on that paper but not mine.
Could be a firmware pen problem? The firmware update I have read on another one post doesn't fix the problem, it update to 38.16 I already have! How could I do by myself?
I read on "Digital Print pre-evaluation instructions" document from Anoto, at chapter 5, there's a kit containing "1PageTest.ps" and "5PagesTest.ps", maybe I could be able to print that page instead of "PC Data Demo" and develop my application by using it. Maybe my pen could recognize this pattern but I haven't.
Has anyone these files? Could send me to let me try?
I have not printing problems, my laser printer works great (colour and stroke pidgets present on "PC Data Demo LaserW.ps" have been printed correctly).
Thanks

It seems you are not alone... I have just tried printing out the files "PC Data Demo LaserW.ps" and "TEST PAPERSDK LaserW.ps" from the Anoto SDK, and I get the same results as you! The pidgets work OK, but when I press the pen down anywhere else on the paper, the pen vibrates and the memory flashes RED.
I too have firmware version 38.16. I think this is the latest version for the consumer pen. Logitech do a firmware update utility for the commercial pen, but not for the consumer pen.
I don't have any any other Anoto PS files that I am permitted to send you. But you could try asking Brijesh on the forums to send you the Nokia PDF. Alternatively, maybe you could buy a Logitech notebook and use that paper for your project?
I don't understand why some of these pens work on some papers and some don't. Brijesh seems to suggest there's a problem with licensing in this thread...

I would like to know more about this, but it seems there is very little technical support available for this technology. It's a shame, and I am sure it hinders the adoption of an otherwise world-class technology.

I already asked help to Brijesh too.
I also sent an email to logitech support but still waiting for an answer.
Here is nearly midnight, I'm going to bed now.

At university we have
4 Logitech io2 usb pen 38.16 consumer firmware (black)
1 Logitech io2 usb pen 38.14 commercial firmware (same shape but grey)
1 maxell dp-201 usb & Bluetooth
Only maxell pen can recognize the PC-demo page pattern from Anoto

I changed it with the maxell one we bought together with anoto sdk, I think there was no other way!
I will appreciate if anyone could send me the famous pdf file I have read in other posts, to try also on it.
my email: sergej (at) sydbarrett.it
Thanks Lindien
Thanks you all
Sergio
