A bit late, but maybe info for someone else.  The pen does require it's role to be master, so in order to utilize a headset which requires the phone to be master, the connection to the pen cannot be made as the phone cannot be both master and slave at the same time.  The headset, or other device, needs to end it's communication to the phone, then the pen will work fine.  Typically this means powering down the BT headset.
