Hi, Sorry if this is a stupid question, I don't yet own one of these pens. I seem to remember that the nokia one comes with a pdf so that you can print your own digital sheets. Is this also true of the Logitech pen or is there no alternative but to find a store which sells the digital paper?

You need to find store which sells digital paper. I think Logitech IO pen comes with 3 pack of Collins Digital book.

I have the Logitech io2 pen and the Nokia pen. Both come with notebooks. None comes with a PDF. The PDF seems to be an urban legend. Most printers are not able to print the very fine dots required by the pen so that the pattern works all over the page.

Even if you try to copy a page with a high performance copier, the quality is not good enough for professional use (there are always spots on the paper which can not be used).

If have tried all sorts of combinations to verify reports that it is possible. And, yes, its possible, but as I said not the whole page works.

Also, you need to understand that in a notebook, every page has a different pattern so that you can go back to a page you wrote on a few days agon and add stuff. If you would only copy one page of the notebook over and over, the pen would always think that it is writing on the same page. You could of course tell the pen each time that it is a new page (like you tell it if you start a new notebook), but you could never go back a page and add something.

So, my tip is to just buy a bunch of digital anoto notebooks at the cheapest seller and thats that. Buy a bunch to spread out the shipping costs :-).

When you are considering buying the Nokia pen vs the Logitech pen, beware of the versions. The Logitech io2 (i o two) pen comes with a massive software package. The old Nokia SU-1B come with software which is not worth it. But of course there is 3rd party software that you can use (Oxford diary software etc.). And Nokia will be releasing a new version which looks very much like the io2. What I am trying to say is: look at the software you get! The pen is only half of the package.

FYI..

B: You need printer with Postscript 3 installed to print that PDF file.

I actually have both as well, and the Nokia one *does* come with printable PDFs.. that're pretty much unusable.

You get two sizes, A5 and B7 and you can only print them on certain HP laser printers.

I tried printing at 9600x2400 dpi on a Canon bubblejet and it didn't work. The pen recognised the paper, ie. it buzzed, but couldn't capture anything.

Tried again on an HP laserjet aod nce again, pen couldn't recognise the paper. They also take absolute ages to print, because of all the dots, I presume.

Also, Hendrik is right. The pages are all the same, so you can only use them one at a time - you have to check 'new page' on every single page, unlike a book where you just check the box at the front of the book.

If anyone wants to try, I could send you the PDFs.

As said, you need to print PDF files with PS 3 Installed for printer.

Which HP laser jet printer you are using? also while printing PDF files you need to select Scaling to NONE.

I just looked at the Nokia CDROM again. There is no PDF with dots on it. Maybe, because I have the German version? Where on the CDROM should the PDF be? Or is it only decompressed when I install the software? I currently do not have the software installed.

Well, I'm not exactly sure, as I don't currently have the CD with me. It's in one of the folders on the CD, not installed. I do have the PDFs so maybe you'd like those instead? I got my pen on ebay, it came from Hong Kong.

My research into printing your own digital paper:
Digital paper requires laser toner. Inkjet does not work.
Settings on the laser must be at least 600 dpi.
make sure background removal is all the way off
make sure sharpness is all the way to sharpest setting.

This was successful with an HP MFP9040 machine.
