The LiveScribe pen will be available "early 2008, and will be available at many of your favourite retail outlets." That's a neat pen, no?

Regarding your io2, I'll try to outline how to get it working again, in Vista. This is fairly complex if you are a casual PC user, but if you are careful to follow directions, it can be done. First, follow the clean-boot procedure that is available here:

Next, HARD reset your pen. How to do this is available in the io2 manual, located here:

Now, go to microsoft.com and download and install .net 1.0, then let Microsoft Update update it to .net 1.1 and any security updates that it offers. Dot Net 1.0 is available here:

You will need to restart your computer, possibly more than once, while installing the .net framwork.
When the rebooting is done, once again do a CLEAN REBOOT.

Now, install the io2 software, but you have to let the installer run with administrative priviliges--and hopefully all is well.
In Vista, you will have to grant the i02 startup services administrative rights to run, when Vista asks you.

I did .net software.  Vista already has Version 2.0 and 3.0 built in. so the 1.1 was needed.  I did not do a clean install, but I did use this method (C:\Program Files\Logitech\io2Software by default).  Scroll down until you see a file named Pen.Ink.Download.  Right click it and select Properties in the context menu.  Click on the Compatibility tab.  Under Privilege Level, check the box next to Run this program as an administrator.  It now works perfectly!!

Yes I did watch the SmartPen Videos and that looks like an amazing Digital Pen.  I wish they would just make something work with regular paper instead of special digital pen paper. 

Oh just found out (by trying) my old IO pen paper the Mead Cambridge series works with the new pen!! I have 5 notebooks woth of it.

I'm glad that solved your problem.

Concerning using plain paper, Google this:  AceCad Digimemo.

I have one at work for testing, and if you don't mind carrying or using a clip board, this works great, no special paper required.  Also, you can print and use your own forms, no extra software needed.  It costs roughly the same as the io2 system, if you want the A4/Letter size.  The A5 size costs less, but you can use A5 or even smaller paper on the bigger one if needed.

It also comes with handwriting recognition included, and you can upgrade to the special version of MyScript notes for about US $30.00.

Might be worth a look see?

I did check out AceCad.   I usually use a clipboard.  My question is which model are you using?  Some come with a digital pen. On there website they have 4 models. You look i google, and there are 10???

I have the A402.  They all come with a digital pen, which works only on paper that is placed on the clipboard.  The clipboard has a surface that senses the exact location and movement of only the AceCad pen.  The pens are inexpensive if you lose them, and they are refillable.  All of the digitizing work is done by the clipboard, and you can add onboard memory via an SD card if neccesary.  Otherwise, the clipboard itself (not the pen) docks to the USB port of your computer, like an io2 does--or, if you have installed a camera card, you can insert that in your card reader. 

The one I have is very nicely made, not cheesy at all, and seems very durable.  Here is the link to one like I am testing:

I checked the A402 out .  It seems that model is sold in England.  The newest is the L1.  The L1 has mixed reviews. I can get for $129 and free shipping from BUY.com

My apologies, it is the L1, or "Letter Size" clipboard that I am testing at work.  The salesman who came

here had the European version A4 size, so I got them confused.  I think the only difference is the fraction

of an inch in each direction, but the features appear to be the same.

I can tell you that although I have only done limited testing, that device has performed flawlessly.  We

did get a copy of MyScript for Digimemo, which does seem to do a very good job at character recognition. 

I definitely recommend this software add-on for that device, but the included software is not bad either. 

The only real problem that I have had with our Digimemo is remembering to push the "new page"

button whenever starting a new page.  Several times, I have had a page superimposed over another one

in a file.  It is nice that, like the io pen, you can go back and mark up a previous page, by navigating to

that page via a button on the clipboard. 

After superimposing pages several times, I seem to finally have myself trained.  I have to say that I do

like the device, but I am an engineer that spends a lot of time on factory floors taking notes.  For this

"stand-up" note-taking, I definitely prefer the io2.  An A5 notebook is much less intrusive and easy to

carry around than that clipboard (or any clipboard, for me), so personally, I'll stay with the io.  If we

use the Digimemo clipboards, they will more or less stay at a designated work area.

But then, if you are used to a clipboard anyway, the Digimemo is a heck of a nice device.  One other

neat thing is that if you hook it via USB to your computer, what you put on paper appears real-time

on your computer screen.  Nice touch for presentations, or sketching.
