Vista Driver for IO2 Digital Pen?

Does anyone know when (or if) Logitech plans to come out with a Vista driver for the IO2 pen?

It's really annoying that I have to use an older laptop with XP installed to use it.

I have read posts in the forums here that indicate some people have been able to get it to work, but I'm not that clever with this sort of thing. I'd prefer to just get a download from the manufacturer.

(Are you listening, Logitech?)

Re: Vista Driver for IO2 Digital Pen?

I 'am using the pen on Vista Home Premium with no problems. The only thing I had to do was install .net 1.1. Everything is working correctly except when I first started using the pen windows One Care kept stopping the software and asking to allow every second or so with about 30 different programs. After allowing all of them it works like a charm.

Xelmyrion,
I guess you could call dot net 1.1 a "download from the manufacturer," that manufacturer being the folks who made your operating system. Just download and install this, it seems to work for most folks with Vista problems:

Hope this helps!

Thank you all for the tips, but I still cannot get it to install the software. The software install seems to get almost all the way to the end, but then hangs. The progress bar shows that the install is virtually complete (or 99% complete anyway), but hangs on the step that reads: "rolling back action:"

Using task manager, I stop the Install Shield setup. I can launch the application, but the applicaiton then hangs as well. I can dock the pen in the USB cradle and Vista sees it, knows that it's a digital pen, but nothing else happens.

My computer config looks like this:

Intel Core 2 2.4GHz processor
4Gb RAM
nVidia GeForce 8600 GTS video
SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD audio
Windows Vista Home Premium
iTunes is installed
McAfee SecurityCenter (firewall and virus protection)
Dot Net v1.1 installed

I've tried disabling McAfee completely, but that didn't help.

I've tried disabling iTunes completely, but that didin't help either.

Xelmyrion,

Can you please detail exactly what steps you took when attempting to install the software?  With that information, I may be able to help.

Thanks,

Dixon

Re: Vista Driver for IO2 Digital Pen?

I've tried several things.

First attempt was to install from the CD. Autorun launches the install, which begins with the demo. Follow the prompts on screen until it hangs as described above.

Next attempt was to download the version from Logitech's site and install from a folder on my harddisk. Same result, though I did have to remove the folders it created on the first install and the registry entries manually since the install didn't complete and update Windows program directory correctly.

In all attempts the process is the same and so are the results:
1) launch setup
2) watch the demo
3) follow the onscreen prompts
4) watch the progress bar until the install hangs
5) use task manager to kill the installshield process
6) launch the software (because it does seem to get installed, though obviously not correctly)
7) software begins to launch with "Starting Application..." at the bottom of the splash screen and then hangs. Task manager shows an application running called "Form1" and the app goes no further. I end up having to kill the "Form1" process with task manager.

One more question:

Have to tried the "clean boot," or "clean install" method?  This disables all non-essential apps and services until you install the software.

I had to use this same method to install ReadIRIS 11, but it did work.

Can't think of anything else, but I'll do a little more research when time allows.

Hope this helps!

Re: Vista Driver for IO2 Digital Pen?

Well, I hadn't thought of the clean boot approach, so I tried it. I used msconfig to change the boot options. I tried a couple different ways. I first tried disabling everything and only loaded the base system, using the "diagnostic boot" option. That yielded the same results as before.

Next I tried selective startup, thinking that maybe too much was left unloaded in the diagnostic boot. So I removed the installed files from the program files folder and deleted the registry entries related to the pen. I disabled McAfee and iTunes (I've had strange things happen under XP in the past when iTunes was loaded when installing other apps).

The same thing happened, regardless of the boot options I chose: InstallShield hung at the "Rolling back action:" step and, after killing installshield, the application hung at the "Starting applications..." step.

Then, somewhere during the process I remembered something: I'm running Vista in Aero mode.

I am now convinced there is something about Aero preventing me from using the IO2 Pen with Vista.

SOOoooo...thank you very much for the generous donation of your time in helping me me try to fix this thing, but I think I'm just stuck waiting for Logitech to get around to putting out a Vista w/Aero set of drivers and applications.

I have problems to use my IO2 pen in Vista Home premium. IS Logitech thinking in issue a poatch or something to make the pen work?

Re: Vista Driver for IO2 Digital Pen?

I went through the installation of io2 software install vers. 4.1.852.1 without a problem under Windows Vista Home Premium. The icon appears on the taskbar with the red circle indicating a pen isn't in the cradle. When I put the pen in the cradle Windows doesn't recognize the pen. If I go to pen settings nothig is listed nor is it listed in the devices manager. I've followed directions about run the pen.ink.download as administrator by right clicking on the icon and choosing "Run as Administrator." However, if I click on properties the run as administrator is grayed out even though I have admin privileges and have UAC disabled. I also selected to run all application files as Windows XP SP1.
