Vista? Alternatives to IO2 that support Vista?

I need to find an alternate solution to the IO2 pen for a new customer because Logitech doesn't seem to be able to support Vista. Official answers from Logitech said that "they don't support beta operating systems"...even though there has already been the Vista release-to-manufacturing. I can't afford to use a solution that won't be ready for vista when our next batch of PCs arrives with Vista pre-installed.

Any suggestions for IO2 alternatives that support Vista?

I got the io2 software to install on my 64-bit Vista box byt first installin .net 1.1 and then the .net 1.1 service pack 1.

Hope that helps.

Re: Vista? Alternatives to IO2 that support Vista?

Hi there,
If you're still having problems, try this.  It appears that the download utility needs to run as administrator on Vista to work.  Navigate to the directory where you installed the logitech utilities (C:\Program Files\Logitech\io2Software by default).  Scroll down until you see a file named Pen.Ink.Download.  Right click it and select Properties in the context menu.  Click on the Compatibility tab.  Under Privilege Level, check the box next to Run this program as an administrator.

You'll have to explicitly allow it to run when it launches (or turn off UAC-- not recommended), but it only launches once per login session.

Let me know if that works.

No problem.  I do have an ulterior motive, though since I work in the Windows division at Microsoft and we really want this kind of thing to work :smileyhappy:

A little more background for anyone who may be wondering.  When you install the software and try to use the io on Vista you'll observe a perplexing problem if you don't have administrator privileges.  Downloading from the pen will work for the duration of the log-on session during which you installed.  However, once you log out and log back in it won't work any more.  The reason it doesn't work, as I mentioned above, is that there is a constantly running .exe that tries to run at log-in, but needs administrative privileges.  The reason it works during the log-on session in which you install is that the .exe in question is launched by the setup utility -- and you had to give the setup utility elevated privileges to do the install.  So, it launches the .exe fine the first time, but subsequent attempts fail.

[ Edited ]
Just got back from CES.

I visitied the Logitech booth, and there were no IO2 pens featured (or any other Anoto-based products) there. Last year they were demoing the IO2.

I hope Logitech hasn't given up on this device!

I gave someone from Logitech my card and asked them to contact me about the Vista driver timeline. I just need to know if this is a dead-end product, or if a Vista driver is being developed, and is staffed and scheduled, before I commit any more of my clients to this technology.

Re: Vista? Alternatives to IO2 that support Vista?

Hi,

I still cannot download anything from my IO2 under Vista.
I posted two days ago a request to Logitech, the answer is "There will have no Vista update for IO2, as it is now stopped product...."

That's of course a very bad news, I bought my IO2 2 weeks ago ...
